Any hope for 1960s Colonial with 2-story tall columns!?

We are under contract to purchase this 1960's colonial which has these super tall 2-story skinny columns on the outside. We are finding no help on the Internet for how to update this style of house. It has been completely renovated inside, absolutely gorgeous and we don't have to change a thing in it - we'd like the outside to be just as impressive - not sure if that's possible! The outside has whitewashed red brick on the 1st floor and white aluminum siding on the 2nd, black shutters. Budget is a consideration, as this house is already close to our maximum budget. Thank you!!

Beef up the columns. Take the shutters off or put up proper sized ones. Add a couple brightly colored planters on each side of the door.

I agree with going to a larger column and either removing or correctly sizing the shutters. I would also get rid of the shrubs on the left end and side of the house. They are too large for the space. Upgrade the remainder of the landscaping and maybe change the door color.

Agree w/ raineycarole. If your budget can't allow for both, I'd go for the columns. They need beefing up for sure.

I think the siding should be painted. Too much white so the columns don't stand out. And I agree that they could wider.

I like the two-tone effect of the beige brick and white siding, and I would suggest adding matching shutters to the first-floor windows. Since the columns are so tall, I would agree they should be larger in diameter. However, I would recommend adding a balcony that corresponds to the three second-story center windows behind the four columns. If possible, perhaps the center window could be turned into a French door for access to the balcony. This also could increase the safety of the home in case of emergency. I would suggest you make the most of the beige and white two-tone scheme by painting the porch and balcony floors a beige that is one or two shades darker than the brick and the porch ceilings a beige that is two shades lighter than the brick. You may need the large shrubs on the left for a windbreak, so I would advise keeping them.
