Help with picking fabric for chaise lounge

Our small living room is a very slow work in progress. We've selected a couple of new pieces that we are wed to & have some old stuff that we love and are keeping. We are still trying to pull the room together. My husband and I have different ideas about what we are trying to achieve, so it is slow going, and not destined to be cohesive. Currently we are trying to pick out fabric for the Mitchell Gold Bob Williams "Hunter Lounge" ( http://www.mgbwhome.com/Assets/ProductImages/AV4/Dominique_Allure_Hunter_Lounge_Setting_SP15.jpg) that we've been eyeing.

STAYING:
- Blue sofa - DWR Raleigh Sofa in Robin's Egg Blue Ducale Wool. ( http://www.dwr.com/product/raleigh-sofa-wool.do?sortby=ourPicks)
- The lounge chairs - DWR Milo Baughman Recliners in Black Leather ( http://www.dwr.com/product/milo-baughman-recliner-74.do?sortby=ourPicks)
- Nesting tables - DWR Skagen ( http://www.dwr.com/product/skagen-nesting-tables-set-of-2.do?sortby=ourPicks&refType=)
- Coffee table - Room & Board Ventrua ( http://www.roomandboard.com/catalog/living/cocktail-tables/ventura-cocktail-table) - staying in the room, but can be moved
- Bar cabinet - Crate & Barrel Marin Cabinet ( http://www.crateandbarrel.com/marin-bar-cabinet/s580531)
- Wall Color Sherwin Williams - SW 7661 Reflection

GOING:
-Two light colored occasional chairs (proposed location for new Hunter Lounge)
-Two tall, dark bookcases, to be replaced with 40" tall walnut media cabinets on either side of fireplace
- Ceiling Fan, to be replace by Savoy Chandelier from MGBW ( http://www.mgbwhome.com/SAVOY-CHANDELIER-ANTIQUE-BRASS-SMOKE-GLASSBRavailable-online-and-in-stores-P11813.aspx)
- Dark Storage cabinet by door - to be replace with ???
- Rug - to be replace by larger rug -- no idea what kind as of yet
- Window treatments - TBD

I have two fabric swatches for the Chaise Lounge - one is mid tone gray mohair, the other is an aqua/lagoon velvet. I have no idea which is better, or if neither works. Thoughts? FYI, please do not suggest getting rid of the blue sofa. That will cost me one husband. THANKS!

I, too, like the gray...deeper color relates better to the black chairs. I saw this rug and thought it mcm/eclectic enough (but with traditional influences) in gray, cream and Aqua.

This room may need some zing in the rug (like DClostboy's above), along with a mix of colors, to pull it together. Try draping the two swatches on the blue sofa and take new photos in daylight and with the lights on.

Have you ever sat on a mohair sofa in summer while wearing shorts?

dclostboy & apple_pie_order -- totally agree re: rug. My husband wants a plain rug. I think that the room is a little bland and shaping up to stay that way if we go with a solid color rug. I figure I'll focus on the rug after the main pieces are selected.

Rug first, final furniture selection second, paint third. Much easier to do it that way when you have the opportunity to pick custom fabrics for upholstery. A good rug shop will let you bring two or three at a time home on approval. Take a cushion with you to the rug shop to save time.

the gray!!! It will blend beautifully and help "un-blue" the room. and if you ever need to move the chair, gray will go almost everywhere in the house

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm thinking of chartreuse as an accent color, once I get to that phase. I'll try to take a picture with better light, but we are definitely in a low winter sun situation for a while. We get plenty of sun for 3/4 of the year, but we are on a north/south street in Chicago and when the sun gets low in the sky, the buildings around us block the light.

Probably not painting anytime in the near future. We live in a modern box, and all of the public spaces in the house connect I don't see myself painting 3 floors in the near future. Plus we love the color.

I think chartreuse will be a fantastic accent colour. Very sophisticated.

@donahuemc, just wanted to stop in to say how much I love what you've acquired for your space.....it is so in-sync to what we hope the style of our home evolves to. Unfortunately it's taken us this long to pinpoint what our style really is....so, along the way we've acquired a few pieces that may not quite fit. (I guess we shall see!)
So although, as you mentioned, it's been a slow work in progress, you should feel good for making some great, quality choices. Keep taking your time and certainly it'll evolve into something you both love. Hopefully we will get there someday too.....
Btw, love the blue velvet fabric. However I think the darker fabric would blend in better with the pieces you intend to keep. Also love the idea of chartreuse as an accent color for your space....and maybe even plum/aubergine.

Use the blue-green and let the color pop. I have a lazy boy sofa in my small living area the same color and you wouldn't believe how many different and inexpensive looks you can get by simply changing the drapes, throw pillows, rugs, and accent pieces.

When selecting your fabric, look and see what the "rub count" is on the fabric detail. The higher the count, the more durable. This could effect your final decision.
