Buyer Beware @ Marder's Nursery

Hi folks, hope this advice can help save someone the trouble that I and others have gone through in the past dealing with this company. Located in Bridgehampton, this "unique" nursery and garden center specializes in hard to find and mature tree specimens with a Hamptons markup that will leave your wallet/purse feeling violated.

Not only do they claim to be all organic, (which they are definitely not, look at their trees and ask them if they were raised organic)but they also have a very hard time maintaining salespeople. In the eyes of some long-time customers they made a fatal error when they fired the top tree salesperson early in 2005.

One of the main reasons I would tell people to shop elsewhere is that the system at Marder's is setup on a commision basis with all salespeople stongly pressured to meet daily, weekly, monthly and yearly sales goals. These numbers are greatly inflated by the management there, which in turn pressures the salespeople to sell as much plant and tree material, for as much as they can.

If you want to shop for overpriced plant, tree and gardening supplies then stop into Marder's in Bridgehampton. Pray that the salesperson working with you doesn't spot another customer, known to spend lots of money on their American Express Black Card, pulling into the lot. If this does happen while you are there, expect to get dropped like a wet towel.
