sick zygocactus

My next door neighbour is a zygocactus collector who just recently moved from Sunshine Coast to Bundaberg. Many of her zygocactus have collapsed. She thought it was from overwatering but the roots appear to be intact and not at all rotted. Has anyone any ideas I know she would appreciate any help.

Maybe take a closer look at the plants.. are the stems really soft, like they need a good water? When I was on the coast my plants didn't need much less water than in summer, since our winters are so sunny and bright and dry! I'm not sure what else would cause them to flop, especially since you've ruled out rot. If you're worried about losing them, take some cuttings just in case. It could be to do with the move, were they in boxes? When I moved from the Goldie to Charleville I moved my succulents in boxes which got quite hot, many of them collapsed for a week or two afterwards but came right with some tlc.
    Good luck,
    Lisa :)

Hi Tamoure, In Perth, WA. our zygos tend to look very sluggish this time of the year. I had always thought they had spent their energy flowering. They also grow very slowly this time of the year (Winter). Nevertheless, I thought they would pick up better in Queensland. I envy your winter weather.
    Wishing you growing success, Arachnean.

Mine also looked a little limp after flowering recently, but after a week or so they're all back up no probs. If your still having problems look around the area they're in. Has a tree been cut down that was shading them? Not necessarily your place, but possibly the neighbours? or has something been built that could alter sunlight/shade ratio? Also what's the potting medium like? Just because you've watered doesn't mean the soil is wet, after a while soil can become water resistant, so you can try water crystals mixed with yr potting mix and a quick fix...dump them in a tub of water and let soak for an hour or two.
