lighting size over island

How do you calculate the size of lights over your island? My island measurements are 42"x74" and i want to use cage fixtures, 19" high x 12" wide or 15" high x 9" wide with 9' ceilings. I want to use 2 fixtures but don't know what size and how far to space them apart, or if i need to find different size if so what do you think will work.

Generally, lights above an island are spaced 2-3 ft. apart. You have six feet of island, so you can use two. You prefer to hang only two, so going with the larger size may look better in your space.
