Hi Michelle! Thank you so much for your question and your interest in this beautiful project. The open space behind the bar is approximately 5' wide x 12' long. The depth of the bar was designed as such to incorporate the support post located to the left in the picture above. As you can see, the support post was encased in wood to match the cabinetry to enhance the look.

i have the same support post issue in my basement. do you have a close up of the post and how it meets the counter? is it just outside or incorporated into the counter top?
