Most mints are not seed propagated--through cuttings to retain the true flavors. Orange mint is just one of the numerous scents. It's a pretty plant, grows well, but has a harsher flavor than some mints. Nice for tea--the orange is only in the aroma, not in the flavor.

But how did it get it's "orange" properties? Does anyone know if it's just a hybrid, or is it a GM type variety?

The various flavored mints aren't GMO'd. They are created by plant breeders doing things the way the've always done them, breeding in desirable and new flavors through a lot of trial and error. Yes, hybrid. That is why cuttings are taken to create plants for market. It is the only way to propagate true to the type and qualities.

I used to have an amazing crop of orange mint in my old garden, but I never made tea or anything with it. It smells so wonderful, I used it as a ground cover near the path and around the flower bulbs. I can't wait to see if I can get it growing here
