Need help for exterior of home!

My husband and I recently bought a 1960's mid century modern ranch. We aren't huge fans of the yellow brick color or the trim and siding and we aren't sure what to do about the windows or awnings and the landscaping. We just need help with what to do with the exterior! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I like your house! It looks sunny and cute. Just my opinion as a lazy person: I'm not a fan of maintenance. By painting brick you turn it from a zero maintenance siding to a high maintenance siding.

Do you need awnings for sun protection? If not I would remove. If you do I think maybe a much more streamlined awning (less scallopy), maybe a standing seam awning like this?

I like the idea of black, very dark grey, or very dark brown trim and awning depending on what would go with your roof color (which I can't really make out).

Because I am a color addict, I would probably pair that with a brighter earth tone door like a rusty orange or bright olive. And I would consider (depending on how much color I liked) repeating that on the board and batten above the door.

Hi there! Thanks so much for your response...the awnings aren't necessary but we just weren't sure what to do with the windows without them! Do you think they'd look too bare?

If it were me, I'd remove the awnings and then do some color blocking on the exterior to emphasize the interesting architectural features and textures.

We have a yellow/gold brick exterior as well, and have found that dark brown and medium-to-dark taupe work very well as trim colors.

I don't think they would look too bare at all, especially with bronze tone windows trim.

I would consider taller foundation plantings (columnar evergreen) along with some other shapes of evergreens in the two "bare spots" - immediately to the right of that tree in your front yard and to the far right. And a much larger planter and maybe a chair or bench to the right of your front door.

Just the other day, I saw a house with that color of brick, and they'd painted the trim a slate blue color. It looked really sharp. I think it would look really good on your house, but I can't really see your roof color.

I'd remove the awnings, and do the trim and the siding above the door in the slate blue. You could paint the front door in another bold color, like red-orange or plum.

I love yellow brick! & I think it looks great w/ other earthy colors like terra cotta, cinnabar red & mossy greens. Here's a yellow brick home that might give you color combo ideas...

And even tho it's a different style home, I also like this color combo very much...

I have a painted brick home. I didn't do it, the previous owner did. It has been maintenance free. We wash it twice a year to keep all the paint fresh. It helps extend the paint job. That's it. It's the best exterior material finish I have ever had and I've had a bunch.

I suggest Navajo White. It looks brownish on the paint sample. The color looks like vanilla ice cream in the out door light on a large expanse. White trim. Get rid of the awnings. They don't belong on the house.

Maybe somebody here can do a better photoshopping job than this, as I couldn't quite pull off what I had in mind. I was thinking the house needs a good contemporary type landscaping to bring out the contemporary lines of the house. Right now, it's a nice looking mid century modern house design plunked down on a boring, conventional yard. Do look up mid century modern landscaping ideas, betsmurph, to get some ideas to play up the houses lines and to give it depth by pulling the landscaping forward.

I used Ben Moore Montgomery White for the siding in front. I thought the light color would add height. A contemporary pendant light would work best, as would a modern door, here in a smokey medium blue. Better window treatments on the inside will make the windows look nicer from the outside. On the whole, though, what a cool house!
