Not faked my IT/av guy rigs them for my clients using radio controls (I think) All I know is they can be a room or more away and the remotes still work. If you need help I can give you his number.

There's something called an infrared repeater that places a very small receiver eye on the edge of the tv and is wired to a box with several emitters that are placed on the IR receivers of the various electronics. This allows you to hide the components inside a cabinet but still use the factory supplied remotes. Do a search at your favorite electronics store website for "infrared repeater".

I will be using this application for a client where we don't have available depth for a cabinet below the tv. I'm constructing an in-wall cabinet for the cable box and a small DVD player around the corner. The furnace room is behind this area so we have access for routing cables.
