Why do you say that, Kenny? We've used a very tiny bi-fold door as a passthrough before and it works perfectly!

Duty will apply to anything manufactured outside of the US. Since we can't see the faucet you want, there's no real way of answering how or where to buy it. If it's a standard manufacturer you should be able to order it through any local plumbing supply retailer. You will also want to be certain that you're ordering a product that is CSA approved if the work you're doing involves any inspections from local authorities having jurisdiction.

I've done a quick search and it seems like it can be done... But check out this articlel written by an inspector: http://www.structuretech1.com/2010/11/wood-foundations/ My question is: indoor air quality with a preserved wood. In Canada, we don't have indoor air quality requirements. Yep. Health Canada, in their ultimate wisdom (these are the same people who allowed Thalidomide to be used for another 5 years after everyone else banned it) have not deemed it necessary to include "heathly" requirements for indoor air quality. Pressurized wood requires preservatives. My question becomes, what are the chemicals used to preserve wood long enough to withstand 100 yeas in the ground/weather? This is the question I would start with. California has standards. Europe has standards. England has standards (separate from the EU...but never mind) but Canada does not. The article is an eye-opener.

Dear Apple Pie Order, & Patricia Colwell Consulting: Thank you to both of you for writing. I know of one especially good "bricks and mortar" (i.e., not merely online) salvage place in St. Jacob's, Ontario: Artefacts Salvage & Design. Since I now live a good three hours plus from this great store, I haven't had a chance to visit it for a few years. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone searching for salvage items. You never know what they are going to have; the folks that own the shop, as well as their employees are quite nice and helpful. ...I get what was said, re: sow's ear from a silk purse. I love that expression, as well! Another similar saying from the trucking world is: "Putting chrome on a Mack is like putting perfume on a pig." Love that one, too! Both conjure great imagery that always makes one smile. When I mentioned wanting some embellishments for our decidedly unadorned 70s style raised bungalow, I didn't have visions of anything ornate. More rustic, but with some depth and design to it, changes of plane, etc. For e.g., in some rooms, we could build and install coffered ceilings made from simple planks, rather than using grand, overwrought, fancy, milled materials. Whatever elements are added must suit the structure, as you can't force things, that's for sure. The excess characterizing a number of celebrity weddings suddenly comes to mind! A few years ago, one of our total gut and reno jobs was a mid-1950s, solid, but essentially nondescript suburban bungalow in Toronto. Without going "whole hog," (there's that reference to pigs again!) I decided it should be given some character by infusing it with Arts & Crafts details; lighting fixtures, both interior and exterior, were a good way to achieve this over all style, as was simple, but interesting fireplace mantels, and so on. Choosing this design inspiration worked very well, thereby giving a bland dwelling some warm, welcoming heart and soul. So for sure: it's all about vision, focus, and balanced execution. Lastly, just want to share how much I appreciate the name, "Apple Pie Order." It's wonderful! Great idea regarding posting a query targeting professionals on Houzz. I'll do just that! Duties have nothing to do with Houzz...but to do with country of import. Even if it is being SHIPPED from the USA, a Chinese product may be tithed with import duties...depending on the "category" it falls into. This is the same for any "importer" of products being brought into Canada. It is always best to assume that duties and fees will exist and as the Importer, you have the honour of paying those fees. Don't forget, there can be "cross boarder" fees just for bringing in a certain $$ amount. As a seller, I have a relationship with FedEx and UPS...which means I can move things into the USA (I'm a Canadian company) using my negotiated fee structure. The US client never sees the "cross boarder fee" imposed because we build it into our shipping fee structure. They just see a slightly higher shipping fee (than they would expect from a US based shipper). As a private citizen, you don't have the ability to negotiate these rates with UPS of FedEx. You will have to pay the $ "cross boarder fee" every single time something comes across into Canada. Those are "cross boarder fees" and they have NOTHING to do with "duties" on products. That fee is JUST to handle the documents. Someone looks at the paper work, stamps it, and allows it into Canada = $ please. If you purchase something, like Asian Hardwood lumber, then you have the 7% - 21% "anti-dumping" fees known as "duties" imposed on such a product (depending on species and country of manufacture). Those are over and above the $ "cross boarder" fees imposed on your order. Fun isn't it? One of the easiest ways to find out your total amount of fees: ask about country of origin. You can then look up the product and see if the country/product have a certain % of duty on it. If it is "Tariff Free" then you ONLY pay the "cross boarder" fee...which is unavoidable.
