Need help with small living room and new bright colours for furniture

Hi
I ahave a small living area which is too small and I feel the furniture makes it darker.Any adiea with re docorating is welcomed.I also have a budget to buy new couch or re upholister the old once. I dont ave a coffe table since I think it is too small.I reside in South Africa
