I give up on flowers, what evergreens will give me a colorful border?

I've tried many different types of annuals and perennials over the years in my wide, long border (10' by 150') separating my house from neighbors. Some do OK, most have not thrived, and of course the border looks barren and ugly in winter. This border is viewed from a distance of over 100', so I am looking for evergreen shrubs that will give me two or three layers of color and look good all year round. For example, gold mop cypress with purple pixie dwarf lorepetalum planted in front for a gold and maroon color theme with cleyera shrub as a green background. What other evergreens are there that would make a nice color combination, such as blue and yellow against a green background? I live in north Alabama with yucky red clay soil amended with leaf mold compost. Any ideas would be most welcome.
