Green mildew on soil of WS containers?

Last year, I WSd in styrofoam cups that were placed in large rubbermaid tubs. They did great, but I had issues with keeping the cups moist as the sprouts grew.

This year, I just filled the tubs with about 4" of soil and WSd my seeds directly into the soil. Some of my tubs are getting a green mildew on top of the soil and I am concerned about damping off. Has anyone run across this in their WSd containers?

yes, it happens all the time. Most of the time it doesn't seem to affect them. You could spray with a dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide to get rid of it .

I get that too. It's never seemed to bother the sprouts.

It sounds like algae, which some of my containers get. It's never harmed anything as far as I can tell. The seedlings will still grow successfully. Good luck with yours!
