Why all the old stuff?

I'm curious--why am I seeing so many resurrected posts from years ago popping up here? Is it just that new people are looking at & replying to posts that are 3 or more years old, or is it something about the new format since this forum moved?

Some of the older posts have valuable information and it's good to see them appear every so often, this way they won't fall off the tracks when they hit the end of the line.

    Interesting question.

On-line searches can bring up old posts.

I do find it a bit discomforting to be repeating the same thing. It could seem a bit like teaching introductory courses to different classes of students each year.

Still hands-on gardening is an ongoing learning situation for serious perennial gardeners themselves. So hopefully serious perennial gardeners may also have new things to say.

Maybe some Stickies on certain subjects would help?

Or couldn't it because someone searched a topic and brought up old posts on the subject? If they posted a response or question on that thread the entire thread reappears. Or doesn't gardenhouze work that way? Of course, it could also be a houzemalfunction.

And there are old posts with unbeatable information. So much wisdom has accumulated here. Wait till I find the ¨Dogs in Elk¨ thread and post it again. Once in a while someone asks people to repost their most embarrassing garden moment story. It is a wonderful week on gardenweb after that.

HAHAHA the dogs in elk thread !!! I printed out a copy of that years ago and every once in a while I stumble across it when I'm rifling through the file cabinet for something, never fails to get me laughing!

the point of the newbie posts... is that newbs may not understand the variables.. or the right questions to ask ..

gardening is rather simple.. get plant.. dig hole.. insert roots down.. water ..

but these techno wizards start hitting the WWWeb ... and get bafoosaldled by way too much information ...

so my idea with the newb posts.. was to draw in new audience.. and try to make it simple as possible to learn gardening ... like trying to explain.. that watering is the single most important variable.. and no one but the gardener.. can stick their finger in the home soil.. and test it ...

its pretty easy.. to read the posted date.. and skip old posts .. if you dont want to be bothered ...

I'm not complaining, fyi, just curious. I just don't ever remember seeing such a high volume of old posts on the old site and was curious about it.

I think bringing up an old post is helpful as not as many folks might respond to questions that have been asked before.

I just read Dogs in Elk. I amonth gasping for breath! So funny.

Kristen after you have time to recover The Big Stinking Mess is just as funny. Also the suicidal gardenia link the one posted by sultry_jasmine_nights it's hilarious.

Oh, Patty, it's 8am on a Monday morning, and I think I just wet my pants from laughing so hard at "Big Stinking Mess." And I only read the first 2 entries in the thread. I'm trying so hard not to guffaw, and I'm afraid all my office mates think I'm weeping in my cubicle. What a way to start the week.

I copied the first entry, for the convenience of anyone else who wants a smile and hasn't read this:

"Just disastrous results with my attempts at brewing alfalfa tea...after all the posts about the tea, I had to make it. Someone posted a link which gave instructions on how you could jazz up the tea...anyways, I think I added too much alfalfa cubes which expanded in the water to form a solid mush. I added brown sugar, soy sauce, ripe fruits, one cat fish fillet (I swear, the post said it would add extra minerals) a banana peel and stirred the mix and now it smells absolutely horrendous! It is frothing and has a sickening stench and I am even afraid to go near it. And all this is in one of those huge garbage bins with wheels. I am just afraid to use it on my roses....what if they just wilt and die from this vile stuff...and how do I get rid of it? It gets stinkier every day. Any ideas? "Here's the rest of the thread

Kristin, I so love to save posts like this for those odd days were every thing that can go wrong does. Buy the time I've read a few no longer remember that I was having a not so good day.

If you post a reply to an old thread that will "bump" it up to the top of the most recent page of threads.

A very funny long running thread on the Home Disasters forum:

Cat threw up in washing machine

And another funny thread on Home Disasters:

Anyone remember the thread about DH's disasters?

I really love these old threads full of wisdom, common and not-so-common sense, and funny stories. I've been reading this forum (the GW forums) for years and I always get something new from the old threads. So thank you!
