Is this Tongue & Groove siding, or does it overlap?

a custom cut tongue and groove - theres a 1.5" reveal cut into it

It is absolutely beautiful! You do wonderful work. We are building new in Minnesota & our architect designed tongue & groove into the home, however, our builder is concerned with the weather (expanding/shrinking) that we will experience rotting underneath. Any thoughts or suggestions? Ours does not have the 1.5" reveal cut.
