TIGHT Space for Mirrors (Between the Light Fixture and Backsplash) :(

We are coming into the home stretch. Although there have been a few bumps along the way, the overall appearance of our master bathroom remodel should be lovely. One bump, however is the amount of space we have between our downward pointing LED lighting and the top of our backsplash. We have about 42 1/2 - 43 inches... the mirror is 40 inches high. Should we place the mirrors essentially on top of the backsplash (or perhaps a 1/2 inch gap) and give any extra space at the top, where the light fixture meets the mirror ? I don't want to buy new mirrors or lights -- would prefer to try to make this work.

I'm cross-posting this in bathrooms with a hope that somebody responds... they hang up accessories tomorrow morning @ 8:00 a.m.!).

My first instinct is to split the difference and center the mirrors between the lights and backsplash, so you have about 1.5" inches both above and below.

The best idea is to see how it looks in real life-- try the mirrors all the way up to the lights, then down against the backsplash, then centered, and see which option looks best.

Is the measurement from the bottom of the glass shades or from the bottom of the fixture where it's wired to the wall (maybe called the base plate)? Are the mirrors frameless?

Here is one where they split the difference, if you are talking about the measurement from the bottom of the glass shade.

But if you're measuring from the baseplate, I think I'd drop the mirror down to the backsplash so it's about even with the bottom of the shades.

I too would split the difference. Have you held them up so see what is more visually appealing to you? I would definitely allow for a little bit of space between the backsplash and the mirror if even just enough to see a hint of the wall.

Thanks for the feedback all. I was measuring from the bottom of the glass shades.

What type of mirrors will you be using, and what other lighting do you have in the room?

They have a brushed nickel 2 inch (ish) wood frame finish with a simple, contemporary look and the mirrors are non-beveled. I do have three LED canned lights in the room as well. All lights are on dimmers & are LED.

This comment is probably too late, but I'd split the difference, like the photo shown by olychick. You need some room below the bottom of the shades, so err on that side if necessary. You'll have to clean those eventually and you need that space to take them off too.

With framed, I'd do as others have suggested and split the difference.

Not too late -- thanks for the feedback!

Appreciate the feedback all. I generally like the look being balanced - however, I held the mirrors up & because they are large, I really did not like the look with splitting the difference -- felt too close to the top. I left a scant 1/2 inch at the bottom to give more space near the lighting and am very happy with the look. Take a peek. Thanks so much for your feedback!

That turned out very nice! Thanks for the update; it's fun to see when the decisions are implemented.
