But...won't the cat scratch the heck out of the corrugated cardboard instead? Same problem! (And don't tell me microfiber helps: they don't like to scratch it, but their little talons catch on it when they stretch out)

But imagine the same design using sisal instead of card board. Love the juxtaposition of whatever the main fabric is (linen) and the organic texture of the sisal. Purrfect.
