Bird built nest in my fishtail hoya! should i remove it?

I put my fishtail hoya outside about a week ago. When i looked at it yesterday i saw that a small bird built a nest in it. What should i do? will it hurt the plant?

    UPDATE!!!! SHE LAID AN EGG!!!

    sweet!

Aww, just single egg? That's unusual. Usually it's 3 or 4. Of course, maybe there are more coming... I know eagles lay their eggs over the course of a week or so.

    Go birdy!!

omg OF COURSE don't remove it. And keep us updated. Have you seen the bird? I wonder what kind it is. I am all excited here, 'cause I grow 100% indoors, in New York City, and this is just WAYYYYY cool for me to see.

Denise (or anyone overwintering their pots indoors) - I would save the nest if I were you, and I'd place it right back into the same pot in the spring, and put the pot in the same place, hoping that this would invite the birdies back next year.

    And we now have 4!!!

These eggs are soooo small! I have seen the bird which is small too but i dont know what kind it is. I will try to get footage.

They are a little bigger than the size of a marble.

Very exciting, please do keep us informed on their progress. I have a family of cardinals that I feed when watering my Hoyas and they follow me from plant to plant. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

I had a Doves nest on my Dischidia years ago. Babies eyes had blue ring around their eyes. It was very exciting to watch them grow.

    Those eggs are so cute.

    Awwwwww! So cute.

Have you managed to I.D. the parents yet ? I am originally from Boston and they remind me of Barn Swallow eggs with their 'freckles'.

I guess we should ask you about the plant, too, are you able to keep it watered properly and how does 'it' like having tenants ? Thank you so much for this fun thread.

FOUR! How cool. Are they robins? I think robin's eggs are blue. It's so much fun watching baby birds grow and mamas feed them and then watching them eventually fly. It's happened many times over the years on my front porch. Mostly robins, but a couple years ago, I had barn swallows...

Nesting right up in the corner on my porch!! I so enjoyed watching them grow up, mama feeding them, and I was so proud (but also sad) to see them leave the nest. Such fun watching birds grow up and go off to be independent! I never get tired of watching the process...

They are NOT Robin eggs. Im not yet able to identify what kind of bird it is.

Everytime i come around the nest, the mother flies away. lol

I am able to water it properly.

I cant wait until they hatch!

    I will keep you updated!

Denise, those 4 little barn swallows bring back memories of life on my grandmas farm. Your 4 little chicks remind me of owls.

Oh, so tiny! I'm always amazed when they get bigger and they're all crowded in the nest, and mama still smushes on top of them! So cute! Do any of you watch the Decorah, Iowa eagles?

What a gift for you ---- that is one neat nest ---- the nest style would help ID the birds a bit. Can you set up a time lapse camera thing there? It actually isn't too hard, but it does have to be figured out. We're all wanting so much to see the parents! What an honor for you.

What does mama bird think of you hovering over the nest? I'm always interested in bird behavior. Some of them will dive-bomb and get after you while others just watch. When I had a robin's nest in a Hoya, which was under our covered front porch, mama bird would fly to a close spot when we spent time on the porch. If we would sit real still, she would come back and sit on the nest, but we had to be careful not to be noisy or move around a lot. Birds are very interesting creatures!

Here is another update video. They are getting big! Click here for video.

It would be hard to set up a camera above the nest.

The mom just flies over to a tree in my neighbors yard whenever i pick up the nest.
