Tubs vs. Showers : The Great Debate

In a "No Consequence" scenario... (e.g. ignoring resale concerns, et cetera.)

What would you want in your primary bathroom? Tub or Shower?

As part of the Houzz community we see this debate creep into Before and After photos and we want to give it room to play out.

Tub or Shower?

Walkin Shower

For my primary bathroom, I would be happiest with just a shower. BUT...if there isn't another bathroom or other place for a tub then I would probably choose tub/shower combo since there are always some times a tub is needed (soaking in epsom salts after a hard day in the garden; scrubbing filthy small children; handwashing some too-large-for-the-sink item). New place has a cast iron tub perched on a ledge outside, overlooking the valley...that is good enough for me.

Shower for me. I had a tub for 23 years in my previous apartment and only used it to shower the plants and clean the cats' litter box.

Walk-in shower for sure. We had a garden tub for 15 years. I think I used it once. We have a tub/shower combo in our master currently. Our plan is to remove it and replace it with a walk-in shower when we do a complete remodel in a few years.

If I had to choose between the old fashioned shower bath combination, or just a bathtub - then 100% it would be the walk in shower. I hate the thought of taking baths to get clean - I know millions do - but I feel like I'm sitting in the dirt. My bath is for soaking sore muscles - and better yet - a jacuzzi tub to almost massage my tired body.

I comment then read about the shower niches - aren't you right - they are ugly - and I laughed at all the uses for the tub - yep - my dogs get their baths in my jacuzzi - with a pitcher to pour clean water to rinse them. I don't own any pan too large for my sink - but then I have a single bowl sink - my childhood double bowl would be too small for a few - but I would soak things like the big turkey pan - and then wash half and turn it to wash the other half. Learned to be creative in the old days of only having steel wool or the likes to scrub things - soaking was the best option. Still is I've found - so you don't have to work so hard. I have had a progressive disability for over 25 years - one which makes it hard to scrub - so soaking is always the best way to go.

Our customers can never decide, so both! Although many agree showers in the morning and baths in the evening!

I love the look of a claw foot tub but am strictly a shower-er. So I reluctantly vote walk-in with my heart set on that gorgeous non-fucntional (for my life style) claw foot tub.

my bathroom has an extra deep tub/shower combination......only full bathroom in the house. I tried to help my slippery 82 year old mother out after she showered.....she did not fall, but I think it took another year off of both of our lives, and she decreed she'd made do with sponge baths on future visits (I cant blame her).

My perfect bathroom would have a shower big enough for two with two shower heads w/the option of being able to turn on or off the 2nd head along with a deep long enough soaking tub. if I have a tub I use it at least 4 nights a week, along with a good book.
