My bathroom remodel - Tiffany inspired theme

Hi all,

Newbie here! This is my first post. I'm a wanna be interior designer/decorator, so I'm very excited about my bathroom remodel. Demo starts in 3 days and I've got almost everything I need, except patience! LOL

Anyway, here's my bathroom before:

Here's a close up of the paint color against the accent tile. I think it's a pretty good match.

I also put the blingy pulls on the tall cabinet today. It's still laying on the floor, but I rotated the pic so you can see what it will look like upright.

That paint color is a great match with the tile! I'm enjoying watching your progress. Our GC estimated that our renovation will take 2 weeks (extra days if we want to use the shower with plastic sheeting installed). Watching your project come together is helping me figure out how it will be scheduled although we are moving some wiring around as well as having some plumbing changed.

Hadn't checked back in a while--love all the progress you've made! It looks terrific so far, and I still can't wait to see the final reveal!

Katrina Tate, that plastic sheeting in the shower has been the biggest nightmare for me! The shower was tiled last Thursday and won't be grouted until tomorrow, so we've been showering with the plastic and it's a huge PITA to make sure that every surface is covered and I'm so afraid that water is going to seep in somewhere and ruin the thinset so I've been limiting my shower time. Since they've been painting they've pulled some of the plastic off and now I'm afraid to put it back up for fear of ruining the paint job. Do you have another bathroom you can use while yours is being remodeled?

We finally have grout! No more plastic psycho showers!

Here's the shower. We used Stainmaster Crystal Glass grout with Galaxy glitter added to it for a bit of extra bling. The grout is basically crushed glass and really illuminates the color of the tile it's used on, so you can see a faint hint of aqua in it on the aqua tile. Apparently it was a real bitch to work with, though, because it's an epoxy based grout, so basically the glue gets on everything and is very difficult to remove. My contractor was not happy with the product itself but agreed that it looks beautiful.

Here's a close up so you can see the glitter in the grout. I think it's going to sparkle like mad once I get my chandelier up!

On the floor we just used a basic grey grout.

    and a close up

Tomorrow I think they're going to do some more patching and painting and possibly dry fit the vanity and sink because they need to move the mirrored medicine chest up an inch or so to accommodate the new faucet.

It's coming along very nicely and I'm very pleased with the results so far. I hope you all are enjoying watching the transformation through my "eyes" with pictures!

How fun! I love sparkle, too, so this is fun to watch. I love that accent tile and your blingy pulls. Very pretty!

Your bathroom reno is coming along beautifully!!! You know I love the floor tile - the glass tiles you selected for the tub/shower combo are lovely! So many gorgeous elements to your bathroom, and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished project.

Wow, so far so beautiful! I love that floor tile too! What a unique and beautiful bathroom it will be.

I WANT GLITTER GROUT ALL OVER MY HOUSE!!!

Ha ha, monicakm_gw! If you use this stuff and you're not careful you may actually end up with it all over your house!

So it looks like my bathroom will NOT be finished this weekend. :-( My contractor is having some personal issues that didn't allow him to be at my house today, so he is coming over tomorrow morning instead. I think we may be looking at the middle of next week for the final reveal. He still has to get the epoxy residue off of the shower tile, finish patching and painting, move the medicine chest up an inch or so, install the lighting, install the vanity and sink, paint the door, install the trim, change out the door hardware, etc....so many little things left yet to do.

Sorry it's not going to be done as soon as you like, but really I'm pretty impressed with how much has been done since you started. My GC experience was very, very different and not in a good way.

It's looking great! Just hang in there- you'll be showing the finished room in no time :-)

I was finally able to get a good shot of the shower tile, floor tile and wall color together. My vision IS coming together!

My contractor came over today to clean the epoxy off the glass tiles. While he was here we did a dry-fit of the vanity, sink and faucet and realized 2 things - we need to cut a keyhole out of the faucet opening in order for the sink to be centered over the drain hole, and the hole in the countertop is larger than the drain hole (b/c the sink that normally comes with the vanity is white ceramic, so you wouldn't see it), so we're going to have to fashion some sort of chrome washer type ring inside to avoid looking through the sink into the inside of the vanity. We also put it in the bathroom to check out the plumbing measurements. We're going to have to cut a U-shape into the back of the shelf in order to accommodate the plumbing once the feet are installed on the vanity. The good thing is that we aren't going to have to move the medicine chest/mirror up at all, so that's a plus.

Here's the vanity and side cabinet (without the countertops) in the position they'll be installed. We don't have a lot of space, unfortunately, so it's a tight fit, but I think it's going to look fine once we get the countertops, faucet and sink in.

looking lovely! the grout on the floor is a great match with your tile. And the glitter grout is perfect with your clear tile. Very fun to watch your progress.

Got a few things accomplished today. Got the new removable shower head installed, the window film and the vanity light. Unfortunately some of the sockets on the vanity light are wonky and there's a scratch on the mirrored part, so it has to be replaced. Also, unfortunately, it's out of stock online at Home Depot, so I had to order it elsewhere, at a cost of $60 more than what I originally paid >:-(

The window film looks great and when I came home the sun was shining through it making it look like diamonds. Because it's so bright, though, my sister-in-law is designing me a pull-down shade for the window as well.

I love the new shower head! I have always wanted a detachable shower head because sometimes we have to bathe our 22 pound cat (yes, 22 pounds, he's a maine coon) in there, and this will make things so much easier! Unfortunately, I realized, after it was installed, that the cute shower caddy that I bought that looks like a woman's silhouette, is not going to work. So...after much research, decided to order this.

We have the cubby, and that currently holds 1 big bottle of shampoo, 1 big bottle of conditioner and 1 bottle of body wash. I realized that I needed something more to hold all the other little products I use, my razor and our bath scrubbies. I think this will work just fine.

My contractor also thinks he has the plumbing issues resolved for our sink, so I'm hopeful that we'll have a working sink by the end of the day tomorrow. Fingers crossed! :-)

Just lovely!! I can't wait for the final reveal once it's all done. I love the glittery grout.

We've had some plumbing issues...which means we can't use the wooden feet that came with the vanity that would rise it up off the floor about 2 and 3/8". Unfortunately, whoever installed the original sink plumbing glued PVC pipe and we can't take it off to move it without tearing out the whole wall. But...the pipe coming out of the wall just happens to sit on top of the shelf of the vanity with about 1/4" to spare. We considered cutting out a U-shape in the shelf to accommodate the plumbing but it also sticks out too far that it we did that and raised the vanity the plumbing would then hit the back of the top drawer, causing it not to close all the way. So... we decided to forgo the wooden feet and just use the 4 little rubber feet that were supposed to go on the bottom of the wooden feet, to raise it just enough to get it off the floor so we can open the drawer, and without having to re-do all the plumbing. It does make everything a bit shorter than we were expecting, but I think we can live with it. Here's what we've got so far. My contractor says he needs to buys some more plumbing supplies (not sure what) so it's not connected to the water source at the moment, but he had it connected earlier and sent me a pic, so I know it works.

So, here's what the wooden feet look like

And this is how it will look with just the rubber feet

And here's the sink and faucet on the countertop

    Here's our plumbing nightmare

We are ripping out old plumbing and understand your plight. It added $1,500 to the labor expense but I'm sure it will be worth it.

So....I decided that the vanity was just too short without the feet, so I told my contractor to go ahead and cut a U-shaped hole in the shelf and into the top drawer if needed to accommodate that stupid pipe. Fortunately, there was no need to cut into the drawer, just the shelf!

I also did extensive searching online to come up with a solution to the 4" hole in the countertop that was causing us concern, since the sink is glass. Ultimately, I found a 4" chrome mounting ring and had it overnighted to me, and we were able to finish assembling the sink and vanity today! I am SO happy to have running water in there again, as I've been getting tired of brushing my teeth and washing my face in the kitchen!

Here's the finished product and I couldn't be happier! My contractor is going to adjust the doors later, because he didn't want to mess up the silicone holding the counter top down right now.

We still have some little things to do...paint and install the trim, paint the door, install the door hardware, install the chandelier, etc, but I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. :-)

That shower caddy didn't end up working out. It was a piece of crap and definitely not worth what I spent on it, so I returned it and got something 1/2 the price that works better. And the replacement light fixture that I got ended up having prettier globes, so win win for me! I'll post a pic of that tomorrow, as it still has the protective coating on it and I can't get up there to remove it while the silicone is drying on the vanity.

So SO pretty! LOVE the glass vessel sink. You're obviously a "person of height" ;) I'm 5' 3/4". That would never work for me. You're seeing the end of the tunnel...I just entered the tunnel today :o

Monica (who is still dreaming of glitter grout! I gotta come up with something to grout <g>)

Here's the new light fixture. The globes are star shaped as opposed to square shaped like the other one, and I like it much better! :-)

I like the light fixture, too!

And the vanity does look much better with the feet--I'm glad you were able to work it out to use them.

Despite the funky work-arounds required during our bathroom remodels, they still turned out great (IMO!) and function beautifully. Yours will, too!

lilmisfit, would you mind sharing which shower head you purchased? I've about decided on a Delta shower head that looks just like that. This shower head will rarely ever be used for showering (DH soaks) but I want one there just in case and also to rinse out the tub. I like the other Delta products I own but was a bit put off by this one having so many external plastic parts.
    Thanks!
BTW, I'm so enjoying your girly girl remodel! :) My daughter is building a house right now. I'm going to forward her pictures of your glitter grout in hopes maybe she might want to use it in my granddaughter's bathroom :)

Hi Monica, it's the Delta In2ition Two-in-One 3 Spray shower head. I love it!

I don't guess you've had a chance to use it yet? That's the one I'm fairly certain I'm going with.

I have used it actually and it works great! The only thing is that the cord is very long, so if you take the detachable piece off and aren't paying attention it can get wrapped around the faucet and turn the hot water up hotter when you pull on it! I discovered this the hard way! LOL

They added another coat of paint today, and Thursday they should be putting up the chandelier and adding the final touches (my contractor's birthday is tomorrow, so he's not working). Meanwhile, I installed new drawer/door pulls because I realized Saturday night (after just having the sink/vanity functional for 2 days), that one of the crystals had fallen out of one of the pulls and several others were loose. I guess it's true that you get what you pay for, since they were dirt cheap from China. So...I splurged and ordered some Italian pulls w/crystals that are MUCH better quality. Of course, they were 5x as much as I paid for the others, but they are SO worth it! I put them on today (had them rush shipped to me) and I'm testing my husband's powers of observation to see how long it takes him to notice that they're different. LOL

They also installed the doorknobs today (eta: not sure why it's sideways).

If anyone is still following this thread, the bathroom is finally done! My hubby still has to hang one thing for me and change the fixture on one of the decorations, but other than that it is done, done, and done!

Very nice change! Thanks for doing the side-by-side photos of the old and the new. I love the new look. All of your choices are charming.

How are you liking the vessel sink? Do you find that you keep your splashes well contained? Our remodel will give us a vessel sink, too. I am feeling apprehensive!

Thank you, nancyinmich! I love the vessel sink and I'm very conscientious about containing my splashes. I secretly go in the room after my husband's been in there to clean up any water spots he leaves behind, too. LOL
