Just want to try to ask what you guys think about my options for FP surround. Wont let me post pics or just text on my phone and desktop. Weird!

Ok for the third time. We are still working on our house and this weeks dilemma is the FP surround.

From the beginning of time (4 years ago) it was going to be soapstone. Four years ago I planned SS for the kitchen. It is now gray quartzite. With some black leathered granite. So now I cant decide what is best for the FP surround. I cannot get the SS I want and the SS fabricators in my area are not the best. Would it be weird to use the gray quartzite; as the FP is about 25 feet from the kitchen where the quartzite is on display?

I have a thing about continuity in this house. If I use quartzite, that solves that problem. Just not sure if it seems too kitcheny? I could use white marble too as I have an antique white marble FP going in the study, but that's at the other end of the house not visible from the LR/Kitchen

The FP in the LR has white pillars. Will have a stained oak mantle/legs and TV above the FP will have stained picture frame.

Thank you so much for any and all opinions/considerations. My brain just seems dead on this.

Is it bad I am bumping my own post? I figured out my wifi was hiccupping all last evening. Seemed like it was this site but maybe was not... anyway.

I still need to decide on what stone surround to go with. Does anyone have any ideas for me? I'll try to find a close up pic of my options. Yellow tape in above pic is where the surround will be.

This last pic is the actual quartzite stone on my counters that are 25 feet from the FP. I still have a slab reserved. Thanks for looking

I think the countertop material would look fine.

I was thinking marble before you mentioned you had another with that. I think it would blend nicely and it's just so classic/classy imho. I like the smaller piece in front. I think it would look really nice!

I like the counter top with the wood, go for it.

    Thank you! Thank you all!

Beth, that small piece in the pic is actually the quartzite also, just a lighter section of the stone. I had been so set on the soapstone for so long; kind of set in my ways, but it has been just an unbelievable uphill climb for getting it here. Then what do I pick if I don't do SS...I just needed someone else's eyes!

The group that did the kitchen and my marble in Mbath upstairs will do a great job installing and if I did SS we would have had to install ourselves. I am supposed to be scheduling a hip replacement so really have to cut down on the DIY with this house ;)

Guess I'll head over to the stone yard and get this finished. Yay!

Wow, that piece looks so totally different. Well anyway, glad you were able to make a decision. Come back and show us plz!

    Love the quartzite!

Well it's a done deal! However I am going to have to be in on the layout of the template on the stone. I reserved enough stone for my island and they have that set aside but have only ONE slab left. And that one has a 2 x 4 ft chunk out of it. There were at least ten from this lot left in January. So...I guess it will be what it is.

Beth, I know, that small piece is a chunk out of the lighter part of the slab and in the lighting in the LR it looks much lighter. I do love the swirls of the darker gray however and on the last slab its going to be touchy getting it not to look like a black and white cookie ;) The lighter parts have a little tan color and it just looks dirty, so...

Anyway thanks again for cheering me on and I am so glad to have made the decision. With GW help!

They should have it installed by the end of the month so I will post pics when its all finished.
