Can/should one use plywood for kitchen countertop? (X-post kitchens)

I know I've seen plywood floors (Mamagoose?) and I thought I saw
something here on plywood countertops, besides as a temporary
replacement.

My mom read or saw on TV...something about plywood counters and she
thinks it would be great for a small area of the kitchen. Can/should one
use plywood alone or does it have to be tiled?

We're planning on tile in another area, but painted wood (or natural
wood finish) could work in a small area between vintage sink and fridge. Will it warp above dishwasher? And we need to replace/cover the top of dresser, too :)

Here's the sink (almost done cleaning it, but not installed yet) so
water will not be getting on countertop...at least not directly next to
sink.

And here's the dresser, which will be to the left of sink. I am fine
with tile on both sides, but mom would like some wood. Butcherblock is
also an option, but we live 300 miles from Ikea.....
