Given the choice, 4x6 or 5x5 or 4x5?

We are doing a kitchen renovation/house extension that includes reducing the size of the existing bathroom (which is unnecessarily large.) I would like to maximize the kitchen space and would like the bathroom to be small but comfortable. I had allocated 4x5. Husband suggests that's too small. Would 4x5 be too tight or uncomfortable? Assuming we go slightly larger, is there a benefit to choosing either 4x6 or 5x5 ? We are only looking to include a toilet and vanity.

For reference - 2 story house with a bathroom on each floor - top, main, and basement. Family of 5; children are 4, 4, and 5yo.

I have a 3.5' by 5' powder room literally tucked under the stairs. The door is only 20" wide. I seriously doubt that it meets code but it was here before we bought the house. The previous owners' son was a plumbing contractor. It does function as what we call the "world's tiniest half bath". We remodeled it a couple of years ago. The hardest part was finding a sink that would work. The best part was choosing tile for the floor. With less than 18 square feet of flooring, even the most expensive tile we liked didn't blow the budget.

4 x 6 would be better. You could get away with 3x6 depending upon layout.

5 x 5 would work with small vanity. I think 4 x 5 would be too tight.

5'x5' is a nice size. Many bathrooms with a tub are 5'x8' take away the tub and you are left with 5'x5'. You can make 4'x5' work but it is pretty tight. I love our powder room and think the size is just perfect....

It depends on the layout. If toilet and sink will face each other, with door in the middle of the side wall, then you can do 3x6 (or 4x6) just fine. If the fixtures will be next to each other, you really need 5x5 so there's enough clearance/walk space in front of them.
