Something might look nice, but placement might be awkward because the bed is not centered on the wall or with the window. Is this the only possible place for the bed?

What a cute and pretty room! The simplicity of the room has me saying leave it alone. The room looks very clean and fresh as it is.

Yes, unfortunately this is the only option on bed placement where we can access both sides of the bed. :(

Pretty room! I think I would leave the wall bare (but I'm also horrible with picking artwork).

Unfortunately no Tibbrix, as that is the wall that the door opens against and it would not allow enough access to fully open the door. Then on the far wall you can see a door which leads to our back patio, again not enough room and then the wall you don't see has 3 doors, access door and 2 closets.

I had to eliminate the night stand so I could center the bed in order to accommodate decor above the bed.

Thanks! Yeah, I really debated on it but then that shifts the bed up against the wall and I have to be able to access from both sides (back issues so climbing in is a no go). And, Dh made our nightstands and I adore them, lol!

If you are sure of the placement of your furniture, I would wire a beautiful and complimentary double light wall sconce centered over the bed.

I'd go crazy without task lighting for reading ;-)

I think it's perfect the way it is. It just looks fresh and restful and I love the end table your husband made.

The room is very pretty. I want the same look for my guest room which I'm starting soon. Where did you get the light? It looks like one at Pottery Barn but I'm not sure.

As for over the bed the walls look so clean & white just leave it blank. Anything you hang over the bed will just highlight the beds off center.

We have a band saw in our wood work shop. I need a whole lot more practice to be as good as your hubby obviously is, but when I do, I want to try and make tables similar to yours. I know our daughter would love them.

That's wonderful that you have access to a band saw. My hub had to go to a friend's shop and use theirs. This was actually his first attempts at furniture. Even with the band saw they came out rough and required some sanding, for sure. :-)

TwicedBlessedMom, we have a woodwork shop in our basement with quite a few power tools. Hubby and I are making all the trim, but the baseboard, for our home. We found baseboard we liked or we'd have made that too. We also built some of the bookcases in the library. We had one and If found three on CL not long after we moved into the home we built because he didn't think we could make them. I finally drew up plans so he could see how easy they'd be to make.
The only time I used the band saw, other than just playing around with it, was to make apron for a corner cabinet I made from an old door. The only power tool we have that I refuse to use is the framing nail gun. That thing scares the heck out of me. I'll use our finish nail and brad guns though. They are much smaller.

Beautiful room! I think the one thing that might be throwing it off is the one window on the right side of the bed. I had this exact situation in my last house. I used a mirror the left side with a lamp in front of it. It really balanced out the room.

Aktillery9, thank you! That window has been frustrating, or at least the fact that there is no other possible placement for the bed. I had considered a mirror and lamp on that side, do you think it would look okay with another mirror since I have the larger one above the dresser? Also, I wasn't sure if that area would start to look too cluttered since it is next to the frames on that wall. I did try out my living room lamp in there which has a reclaimed wood look sort of base and with the shade I did like it better, added a bit more height over there and like you said, I think balanced it out better than just the tall candle holder. Thanks again. :-)

Look, the bed isn't centered, so there's the elephant in the room. I would embrace it! No putting something above the bed isn't going to fool anyone ;-)

Sure, anything above the bed will be off center, but so is the bed. Also, the tall lamp to offset the window on the other side and add task lighting that will brighten a dark corner is brilliant.

Also, what computer program do you use for these mock ups?

I really love it the way it is. I'm a huge fan of asymmetry and the window is a perfect example of how something just a little "off" can add a lot of design impact to a room.

Oh I love that, fantastic!! Thank you! Now to find the right lamp and maybe use some scenery photos we have from a trip to Lake Louise. I will probably just start with the lamp, see if it feels 'enough' and go from there. :-)

I love the room the way it is, you've created the best solution and it looks wonderful. Guests would be thrilled to use a room so lovely and the tables your husband made are darling and work beautifully. Job well done by both of you.

Instead of a lamp in the corner, could you do a simple sconce/wall-mount, maybe swing-arm, reading light in a metal similar to the bed and the picture frames? I'm thinking one with a square plate to echo the frames and "continue" that look around to that outside wall.

This being a bedroom, I find that less, is more. Though I like Aktillery's changes, I don't think the room needs them. I like balance, but I don't think everything has to be symmetrical to work. I really like the fact this room isn't perfectly balanced. In some way it makes me feel calmer without all the extra things in the room. Since it's a place to sleep, I think that's a good thing.

Justgotabme, I have been tossing it around all afternoon and keep popping in there and although I like the changes suggested and may still go with a lamp when I come across one I love for the space, I'm leaning more towards nothing above the bed. Mainly because the more I think about it, I know I'm in a phase where I do start to feel overwhelmed or weighed down at some point by objects, or I probably always did I'm just finally paying attention, lol. Like you said, I do feel calmer with less. :-)

Ah yes, age does wake us up a bit when it comes to "stuff". My guess is if you do read in bed, you use a tablet or electronic reader of some sort. Hubby and I could not live without bedside lamps as we both love to read real books in bed.

Lol, I do usually use my tablet but I love the real deal as well. :-)

I just got a new Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2" tablet so I might have to try a book or two on it. My hubby and son each have one too and they have used them to read. Hubby didn't plan on it, but finished a book while traveling and had to buy a digital book to have something to read. He still prefers a book in hand though.

They have worked so nicely for me because I have had to have several spinal surgeries and while down recuperating they are easier to hold and I could just flip from books to a whole outside internet world, lol, so I definitely love my tablet. But!! I've always loved reading and nothing could ever fully take the real deals place. :-)

My new tablet is actually heavier than most books I read, but I have a hospital style tray I use in bed for both real books and the tablet. I have a neck issue, nothing serious, but if I hold anything too long with any weight to it I'll be in pain for some time because of it so I decided to get a rolling bed tray. It's not very pretty, but it works. Some day I plan on using it as parts to build a solid wood tray.

I really like aktillery's mock-up. It looks more finished, less like "I just moved in".

I'm going to have to agree with the above comment. It's a lovely room, but it just looks more finished and interesting with the lamp and art.

When I posted this I didn't realize there was even a design dilemma forum to utilize, lol. I'm not entirely sure, seem to be leaning towards not filling the wall, but I of course will keep my eye out for something that I love just in case. :-)
