Plumeria Group Swap? We could call ourselves the "PlumiePeeps" ;P

Hi all! I have been trolling all the other forums on this site, and although we have had some awesome contests on here, I noticed the Plumeria side doesn't do the Round Robins or the swaps. This surprises me, because from what I can see, the Plumie people seem to be the coolest. ... ;P... I see the other forums making rules and complaining about lack of follow through, and I just don't see that happening with you guys. Soooo, I have ideas, and would like to organize two different swaps. Since Plumies can only be shipped in warm weather, now is the time to get started on setting it up.

Idea #1 - I would like to fill a box full of goodies myself, and start a Round Robin with it. I would also have it do the circle twice to make sure everyone get a chance at a larger variety of options, especially for the guys and negating the problem with being at the beginning of the list. In this one, I would discourage actual Plumeria cuttings or plants for obvious reasons, lol. =)

Idea #2 - I think it would be fun to also do a one to one gift box swap. Try to pair people from opposite sides of the country, and give it the following parameters;

1. One Plumeria themed item. Can be a cutting, seeds, plant, your favorite feeding product, a pretty (or manly) knick-knack, or anything else that screams Plumeria to you, lol.

2) One ocean themed item, because summer is coming, YAY!

3) One handmade item, whatever it is that you like to make. Food, crafts, art, sewing, whatever.

4) And one item that you think embodies the state in which you live. (No, I am not sending anyone potatoes, LOL!)

5) And a mystery item if you all want to add a fifth.

We can discuss what rules we should make or if a dollar limit should be set.

Let me know what you guys think or if you would like to participate in something like this. Let's try each of them once, and see how it goes. I want to "give back" to all of you that have been so welcoming, and this would be a fun way to do it

I will have yours on the way Monday as well. Did you want cuttings also from my adeniums? The two I sent to Jedoba are pictured above, just let me know. I hope he has received my package. I guess I could just check the tracking number, duh!!!

Sorta funny how I started with around six plumerias this year without realizing how many different types and colors there are. Now I'm afraid to count!!! It all started when the one seeded. And my adeniums seeded. I have babies everywhere! I have had adult adeniums for years but just no time to learn how to care for them. This forum and other discussions have helped me so much. I don't think any of you know just how much you have taught me and helped me have better plants. (And Kadie who is somewhere on this site!) I just want to say "thank you" to everybody from the bottom of my heart.

And I gave the last seeds I had to Jason. BUT, if you want to me to send you one of the seedlings, I will! You would just have to tell me how to protect it so that maybe it can survive the U.S. mail!!! (The seeds came from the rainbow colored plumeria that is pictured above too)

    Lisa P,

thats fine I can wait until your new yellow is big enough for cuttings.

I too have been adding several to my collection that I started last year. Currently rooting some cuttings I purchased.

My adenium collection I started with 3 that I bought last year they were good size but the freeze we had this winter killed them. I then bought some online from Thailand and they are growing but haven't flowered yet. I started some seedlings not long ago and are growing good. Also started some plumeria seedlings that are also growing good.

i too have learned a lot on this site! It has saved me time and money and am really greatful.

also no need to send an adenium seedling like I mentioned I have some growing. I'm very excited for the plumeria cutting. If you still have blooms on your tree please share an up close picture of the blooms they look very nice. Thanks

Hey everyone! I'm still here!! Hope everyone is ok!!!

Jesse, took this for you to see. The picture doesn't do it justice. I love the orange middle that shows up better without all the rain we have had recently. It has a soft sweet smell that seems to be more aromatic at night. Don't have a clue what it is though, sorry.

    Hi Jason!

    Jason,

hi Jason! Great to hear you checking in. Still no Lisa tho :/

btw I asked you something regarding your purple rain adenium if you could lookup on the messages. Thanks

    Lisa P,

beautiful! Thanks for taking the time to share it with me! Can't wait till my cutting blooms when it does root. Thanks! Will be sending out your box out tomorrow for sure.

Hey, Jesse....I don't have any Purple Rain photos and she is not blooming right now....but these 2 are.

Guess what Jesse!?!? It's a Pompano pink!!!!

    Jason,

    beautiful blooms! Thanks for sharing!

well what I was wondering was if purple rain was actually purple. I have a friend that wants to order some purples and she asked if purple rain was actually purple and I told her mine hasn't bloomed yet but I was going to ask s friend that has seen purple rains blooms and see what he says (you) lol

    Lisa P,

beautiful! Great now we know what's it's called :)

btw I rushed today and sent out your box. I been busy with work and kept pushing it back but I remembered today and said if I don't do it now I never will! So rushed and put everything together and sent its out your way!

    This is the tracking Number 9405 8036 9930 0039 1979 31 .

Jesse yes it is deep purple with almost black edges. The flower is gorgeous!

    Lisa P,

Here is what I put in there. 1 Painted lady brugmansia it's small only like 6-7 inches but will grow fast. I sent it in the little pot it was in with soil and everything but I did pinch off the leaves incase it would wilt as it had many and big and brugs love water and was afraid it would wilt very bad with this heat.

I put some purple datura with soil wrapped in wet papers and plastic film. It was a bit big for the box but I shoved it in lol some are shorter that won't be damaged if the taller one does.

I sent you some of my rain lilies too

and I sent you 1 bulb of Blushing bride Amaryllis a beautiful pink one.

Hope everything arrives in good shape. Post pictures when you get them. Enjoy!

    Jason,

thank you! I'll share this info with my friend so she can make her decision if to order which of corse going to be yes. Thanks!

Mine doesnt look that good tho :/ all the rest I ordered are growing in leaves and looking good except purple rain and one more variety. But hope it starts to grow soon. If not I'll definitely order one again. Where do you order your Adeniums from? Do they also send as barefoot or do they send with soil?

Btw if you want anything of the stuff I offered that I have available to share on the top messages let me know!

    Jedoba,

i will be sending out your box tomorrow. I was going to send out today had everything ready with box sealed but I remembered something you will like that I forgot to include so I decided to wait until tomorrow ;)

I am excited! I will have yours on the way first thing in the morning! I never heard any more from Jedoba. It said the box was delivered, but radio silence for quite awhile now. Today was my first day without rain. We are getting a slow steady shower now and that's perfect for gathering the rain lilies! And I had one plumeria guy tell me he thought it was a Pompano Pink, and then I took a flower to a nursery and they confirmed it. I'm just so happy after all this time to know what it is. It has always rooted easy for me. I'm embarrassed to say how many named plumerias I have now! Got a little carried away! Walked away from a Inca Gold today and I was proud of myself!!!! Well, I hope we will hear something from Lisa and Jedoba. I hope he was happy with his box.

    Lisa P,

    great! Excited to receive!

He must be busy with work especially after the move.

Always great to identify a plant and know it's name.

Thats great! And you have gotten great deals on some that you have mentioned. Plumerias are so expensive out here in CA like some nurseries have nice varieties but for a small foot with two branches they want $50 and up! 4 foot plants for $140 and up! So expensive!

I been buying several cuttings from a guy that sells them at an outdoor flea market for $35- $65 depending on the variety and they are good size cuttings. Well some are. The only thing is that several are Noid but are gorgeous. I cuttings some tips and been grafting then the footing the rest of the cutting. Some I'm just rooting. Hopefully they all take. I bought several from him and today he gave me two free cuttings!

I'm sure Jedoba will come back soon. But the one I'm really worried about is Lisa. Hope she is ok.

Wow, if they were that expensive here I surely wouldn't have so many!!! Do you have Home Depots there??? They all just got Jungle Jack shipments last week. I came home with a Super Round, a Aztec Gold, and an Elsie. And they were $9.98 a piece. A nice rooted two point piece. They go quick but they told me they do that twice a year. Ace Hardware also gets them except they are $16.98. Still that's better than $50 and up. You should make like a wish list of what you like and if I see it I can grab it for you.

    last modified: 9 years ago

    Lisa P,

    yes we got many homedepots.

Wow see that's what I'm telling you! You get better deals in Florida! I did see some jjs plumeria at Home Depot last time but they were $26.98. And I didn't see any special varieties just pinks some whites, yellows, A regular rainbow. Nothing very special maybe they were already gone. The one I did wanted that I saw and just one was jacks purple but the plant didn't look that healthy looking. It had two branches one looked like it was stunned cuz didn't even have the leaf claws nothing just the nub branch the other had 1 leaf and new leafs coming in. I did take it to the check out and asked if they would give a discount and they asked why and I explained it didn't look too healthy and they said 10% off but then I decided not to get it.

I never seen plumerias at the Ace hardware I go to. But I don't go to Ace that often so maybe that's why.

I did see small about 9 inch rooted cuttings in a 4 inch wide but tall pot for I think $9 but they just said plumeria and had a picture with different color blooms no label of what it was. I bought one to graft onto.

I saw a j105 plumeria in bloom at a local nursery and I loved it! Its $45 tho and it's about a foot tall I would say maybe a little more and I don't remember how many branches maybe 3. It keeps bugging me and I picture the bloom in my head it was a nice big bloom. I want to go get it. Lol

    Lisa P,

thanks a ton for the offer!!! That would be so nice from your part! I feel embarrassed tho lol. I feel it's too much to bother you for. But if I do take up your offer I would send you the money for it through PayPal! Do you have PayPal?

    Jedoba,

i haven't sent out your box so don't expect a delivery yet. So here is the thing. The other thing I want to include in your box I'm getting it from my neighbor. She gave me some cuttings and I grew mine and she has a huge one and I am going to ask for a cutting or two. But I haven't seen her. I already went over twice and with my sheers ready lol but she hasn't been home. I know I'll see her during the weekend. So I'll send your box on Monday or Tuesday.

    Lisa P,

saw your message. It's ok! Take your time. Send it when you have the time. I understand sometimes time is limited. And great! Hopefully everything arrived in good shape! I thought it wasn't going to arrive until Friday.

1 point for USPS cuz they were early if anything they are always late lol.

Yes, I did like my box Lisa P.! Sorry that I've not been on - I've been so busy! I own a cleaning and maintenance business here and it's busy season! Anyway, I didn't think it was an 'outside' plant, but I tried one of those purple and green plants in full sun anyway. Needless to say, it did NOT like that one bit. I haven't shipped anything yet, but will soon, Jesse.

Would either of you like some purple heart? You can google the name with succulent if you're not sure.

    Still no Lisa :/

hope she is ok. Might just mail her a get better something.

    Lisa P,

how are the plants I sent you doing? You never shared pictures. Hope everything is growing good for you.

    Jedoba,

i have gotten busy with work and lots of other things. I will try my best to send out what I promised you this upcoming week like on Tuesday or Wednesday. Sorry for the long delay! But I know you'll like your box.

Hi all! I've really enjoyed this thread and was wondering if you have room for another person in your swap group? My name is Dina and I live on the MS gulf coast.

Always room for one more! Just like with plumerias!!

Ha ha, great! Just getting started with plumeria. I have 4 that I bought at Lowes. I haven't found any nurseries here that carry them. I have one angel trumpet that I bought at a farmers market this year. I had some of those before Katrina but lost them. I don't have any Adeniums but fear that may be my next addiction, I love them!

    last modified: 9 years ago

    Dinamc1,

of corse there is room for more! Welcome! :)

    your Name??

gotta love Plumeria! It's so hard not to want more of them. I also love Angels trumpet I have many different kinds. What variety did you get at the farmers market?

Be careful bcuz Adeniums are very much addictive! LoL

Dina is my name. The lady at the farmers didn't know the name but she knew it was peach color and I'm assuming it's not a double bloom. It's rather pitiful looking but it was only $5. I've been trying to find a local nursery that carries Adeniums but no luck. Do any of you have know a reliable resource online for plants or seeds?

    buisness1963 on Ebay

    Dina,

just feed your brugmansia aka Angels trumpet with miracle grow plant food (the blue crystals that dissolve in water) every 2 weeks I sometimes even do it every week if I have the time. Also I use the miracle grow soil that feeds up to 6 months for all my brugs and they love it. It will grow and get better soon as brugs are very resilient plants.

And as for where I got my Adeniums I been lucky enough to find some at an outdoor fleet market. Then I bought some from an eBay seller Anyamanee. So far one has bloomed and it does look to be true to what they sold me. They have amazing prices for grafted plants. They have a deal for $99 for 9 grafted plants. I went ahead and asked if I could pick which ones I wanted instead of the ones listed on the special lot and they said yes. It was a great deal and they didn't take long at all to get here. The time of arrival on eBay said like 2 weeks or something but it only took like 5 or 6 days. It could be different for you so idk.

    Jason,

hi how you been? any of your plumerias blooming for you? Btw what do you use to fertilize your Adeniums? I use diluted MG.

Here is a picture of an adenium I got from Anyamanee that started to bloom.

Thanks y'all, I'll check them out

Hello everyone!! Long time no talk!! I been offline from gardenweb for a while now.

So... Any one ever heard back from Lisa??? Hope she is ok after hearing the news from her son... If It's actually the truth. But to be honest I feel scammed. Sorry just being straight out. Not by who I traded with but by Lisa because she disappeared conveniently right after the boxes were sent. Hmm... I don't know but please tell me what you guys think. And if she still around this comment gotta make her pissed if it ain't true and hope she communicates. Anyways I loved this group and hope we can move forward and continue it. So let's start a fresh thread and stay in contact. If you guys want to discuss anything about the disappearance situation please comment here so we leave all this behind and just start fresh in the new thread

Great to see you back! I never saw Lisa again.. I hope she is ok. I say we just move on. I believe I still have an adenium cutting for you (now well rooted). Did that red ever take off for you?

    Jedoba,

Yes to a new start! Yes I remember and I remember you wanted a couple things from me I'll have to go back and check what they were. And what red?? Are you asking about the plumeria cutting you sent me? No :/ it died. When it arrived it was not in very good conditions. I tried my best to save it. So how are the Adenium seedlings you grew from the seeds I sent you doing?

The seedlings are now 9 months old! They are doing well, and I'll post a pic soon for you. I will send you another red.

Great to hear they are doing great for you! Yes please share pics. And thank you! Can't wait!
