quartzite corteccia - natural stone imported from italy

corteccia is being installed friday. My tile and stone contractor tells me he has been in this business for 30 years. He personally doesnt SEAL a natural quartzite or granite. His feeling is that its a rock/stone and porous. If you seal it - the pores are blocked and it becomes hard and more fragile. I don't know whether to seal or not. also heard of some sealer that lasts 15 years but was told it was bs. please advise whether I should seal or not seal. thanks. Also my blue pearl is being replaced with this. The fireplace still has the blue pearl (should I replace that with the corteccia as well)?
