Well, I love red sofas! I have a red love seat, but our walls are more of a golden yellow. I think that the red would be fine with the beige walls, but the rug could be a problem. Can you post a pic of the rug?

Yes, it all depends on the rug.

I love the red sofa, but I will tell you from the furniture mfg viewpoint that red upholstery is more difficult to sell than other colors, and I am not sure why. Some people love it, but I guess most people are afraid of it. On some pieces of furniture it can lend a bordello look, but not on that sofa.

If you do get it, make sure that you Scotchguard it well.

Re: scotch guarding, how is that done? I asked at a furniture store and they advised against it. Not sure why- it was a few years back.

If you are actually looking at the Ektorp the cover is washable.
For $99 you can change it out if you get the beige feeling back.

Here is the Scotchgard web site - they probably have info on how to use it. We use LeatherGuard on the leather sofa we manufacture, especially the ones that are going to showrooms. We apply the protection before the pieces are upholstered, but I believe you can do it afterwards as well. Perhaps the store you went to had furniture that was already protected and therefore it was not necessary.

If you really like a red sofa, get it....then replace the rug. I cannot picture a red sofa with your current rug.

I guess I can't exactly say that your sofa does not "go" with your current rug, but I would say that currently most people would not pair the two, at least not in the U.S. That said, black/grey/white, with red is a classic combo in fashion and I am hard-pressed to call it wrong, but it is not popular, or at least not something one tends to see in current design magazines. Personally, I find it a little too harsh and jarring and night-club. Also, the sofa style is traditional and the rug pattern is modern.

So, the question is, do you like the room above? Do you think you would like it with less modern furniture, but the same colors and same rug? Do you care what is in style, or do you just want these colors?

You guys are all so incredibly helpful! Thank you!! I have a lot to think about. I don't really like too modern. I do like the rug, but am not too opposed to replacing it. And while I like the red sofa, I'm concerned it's too big a piece in my small room. Tomorrow I'll try to get a pic of the whole room and post.
