1 does look like a weed.

2 is Rudbeckia triloba.

i think 1 is horseweed.

Pamper that nr 2 and you will get a flowering bonanza. in August.

I agree with NHBabs that the first pic is Oenothera biennis. No wonder it looked like a weed, I pull it often enough but usually at a younger stage.

FYI - Rudbeckia triloba generally doesn't need any pampering. Here it thrives on neglect but do not dead-head this one. Let it drop seed if you like it. It is a short-lived perennial/biennial and you will need to let it self-sow if you want more.
