A Natural Way to Control Crawling Pests

User

Many
people frown upon the use of traditional chemicals to get rid of ants,
centipedes, cockroaches and other creepy crawlers. In fact, many such remedies
are banned outright by various jurisdictions.

For
that reason, there is growing interest in natural and eco-friendly pest-control
products.

One
natural remedy against most crawling insects – both in the home and the garden
– is silicon oxide, also known as Diatomaceous earth (DE). This fine pumice-like
powder is abrasive to an insect’s exoskeleton, and causes it to dehydrate and die.

This
remedy was well known and widely used before chemicals became popular. Its effectiveness
is due, in part, to the fact that it is not a chemical, so insects cannot build
immunity to it.

Also,
when applied correctly, it does not harm humans, mammals or helpful flying
insects (such as bees). While generally considered easy to use, it should be
noted that DE is a porous dust, so it is ineffective in wet weather and moist
conditions. Therefore, it may be necessary to re-apply after a rain.

Your local garden center can provide you with
