Evaluation and financing of berm homes

6 years ago I fell in love with a berm home in Colorado and tried to buy it. It was fall 2008 and of course you couldn't buy anything then. Two years later the sellers (who sued me for my earnest money when I couldn't get financing, long story), still had no buyers and I came back and was able to purchase it.
Financing was difficult because it was "unconventional" but i managed through Regions Bank, though it cost a bit more. I'm concerned that if ever I need to sell it I won't be able to.
My question is, why is it that lenders are so afraid of these? They are energy sippers, warm in winter cool in summer and will never need a new roof or gutters or burn down.
Plus, this one has a million dollar. Ire of Denvers front range.
I'll mention I am the 4th owner of this 30+ year old home. They don't change hands often.
