If there's a closet nearby, kept them there. You should have an idea what the temperature is going to be, and know where any drafts are in you bedroom, so you can "plan" ahead, and have the comforter out. The idea of a blanket folded at the end of the bed is a good one. Re decorative pillows, I solved this one easily, I don't have any! Just two bolsters (needed to plug an opening at pillow height in the frame, and two king pillows. But we have a minimalist vibe going, so decorative pillows look out of place.

I have a storage bench at the foot of my bed and it holds an extra blanket and 6 decorator pillows. Plus it is handy for sitting to put on my shoes. Mine came with dividers, but took them out.

i keep my sham on a straight chair in the bedroom. the comforter i hang away and use a cotton quilt in the summer.

if i visited your house in the summer i really would think nothing of you not having a boatload of small pillows as decoration. consider getting a cotton quilt and you'll be 100% good to go, you can put your comforter in one of those bags that sucks the air out and put it under your bed.
