Cosmetically, sure. How is it otherwise?

Unless the door is rotted - which does not appear to be the case, even so, a small amount of rot can be sealed and wood puttied and the bottom can be encased with a brass cover.

You will need to remove the door, set it on saw horses. Close the entrance to your home temporarily with plywood. Sand the door down and if the demarcation (dark part of the door) is too deep for the sand out simply stain the door the color of the darker part.

I also suggest getting a brass knob wrap and changing the knob itself.

The grain pattern of the door indicates that it is a veneered door, might even be hollow core. My guess is that it was cobbled up by someone in the past and may not be worth your time to try to save it. If you attempt to fix it, be sure to not sand through the veneer.

I agree that it looks like it might be a hollow core door and should be replaced.

Go to a specialty door store for a new door. As was mentioned, they aren't that expensive. You'll need a new jamb so go with a pre-hung door.

My DD's house has an 80 year old solid wood door also. It is in good shape but is looking a little tired. They got a quote to have it brought back to life...$1200. They will be painting it.

From the view we are being offered it looks like it could be a solid slab oak wood door that had the screen door removed - hence the demarcation on the door. Sometimes these doors were made without stiles and rails as noted in this Omaha home.

It is not difficult to sand and stain a door. It may not be a perfect $1200.00 job in the end but it will look fine and last you another 80 years.

The grain pattern on the door indicates it is rotary cut veneer. Slab wood does not have that grain pattern. What is under the veneer, no body can tell from a picture. Agree that there was probably a screen door on it at one time.

I like the windows, so would consider painting it. But I guess "Craftsman-style home" means you want wood? Then I'd at least sell this one on Craig's List -- somebody would be happy to paint it and have something unusual.

If you replace the door you could save it and make a desk or table or something cool out of it.

It does look like a veneer but hard to believe that a veneer held up to outdoor use for so long.

I believe it is solid veneer. The porch is covered so maybe that's why it's lasted so long.

I think I found your door in a 1923 Catalog by W.D. Crooks and Sons based in Philadelphia. Open the door and check the top edge to see if there is a branded logo.

If this is indeed a Crooks door you have 1/4" (red) oak on both sides of the door attached to a frame with more wood (less expensive) inside.

I agree if your door is in good shape refinish it your self and keep it. I had an old solid wood door that was in poor shape. I no longer could get dead bolt or door knob to fit the hole so it did not securely lock. The threshold was loose and the door was almost an inch out of plumb. The kicker was they don't make doors that size any more so I had to have it custom made. So now I have the exact door but new and square with a dead bolt that works securely and no one knows it is a new door made to look like the old one. So if you need a new door you can have one made just like your old one and keep the period look you have now.

Before you sand it, clean it well with a deck cleaner that has oxygen bleach in it. That may lighten the discoloration a lot.

If it is a Crooks door (nice find, Lucidos), it has some significance and may be worth restoring.

If this is truly a Crooks door, I don't think it would have been made using rotary cut veneer, unless they made a lower end door. (I could be wrong, it has happened) Lucidos, even your picture of a Crooks door shows veneer slices laid out in a book-matched pattern.

Rotary cut veneer is the least expensive method of cutting veneer and results in very large sheets with unrealistic, distorted graining (IMO), and the OPs picture show this.

No clue Al, looking through my pile of craftsman and arts and crafts books the typical manufacture of that style of door of that era used a 3 light not 4. I think the red door above had the glass replaced and a center stile removed. In any case I hope our OP climbs to the top of the door and sees if there is a clue. I'm curious! If you elect to refinish this door yourself. Don't start with a sander. Strip all the old finish off with a chemical stripper. You don't have much veneer to play with and if you sand through you've ruined the door.

I just looked, no crooks logo unfortunately. Is it a terrible idea to maybe just paint it?

Do not paint it! Painting doors is a modern idea. Doors used to be wood with a clear finish, that's all. Certainly, doors of Craftsman style were never painted.

The logo on the top may have been trimmed while hanging the door, no biggie. And...looking at the top will tell you how thick the veneer is; you'll be able to see it clearly (or on the hinge side) since it has gotten a lot less wear and tear up there.

To my mind, the veneer's grain is not very attractive, so it's your call. I would strip the finish, clean it as well as possible, maybe sand a bit if needed, and then refinish with a darkish warm brown stain (to mask the wild grain a bit) and put a good finish on it.

Thank you for looking. I still think you have a better than nothing chance to restore that door. When looking for a new door, in keeping with the home, it would cost a pretty penny. Again it's your door but I suggest giving it a go with stripping and sanding and staining. You have nothing to loose but a bit of time.

Is there a possibility you can take a picture of the top and inside hinge edge?
