uninstall new Adobe reader program, what the heck is it now?

I thought I was updating, and probably have, but do not like the new "format" of this adobe reader DC? I uninstalled, and now have something I don't know what the heck it is, changed the icons on the already acquired pdf's I have in files, I am in a mess now for sure. Need some advice on what to do. I like my pdf's plain and simple, this newer version had all kinds of bells and whistles. Can someone lead me down a correct path here, and how to get there? Many thanks

I'm still using AR 11.0.11...and when I "check for updates" it says none are available...so I'm curious as to how you got the "update" in the first place. Did you really uninstall DC? If yes, what did you install afterwards? You didn't say.

Sumatra is often recommended as an alternative to AR...but I've never used it myself. Try it if you want to: http://www.sumatrapdfreader.org/free-pdf-reader.html

I used to use Sumatra -- reasonably good, free pdf viewer w/a small footprint (unlike Adobe). But after a windows reinstall, I "discovered" Firefox reads pdfs too, so I just use Firefox as it's convenient & no need for an extra program.

I have FF, but don't understand about "reading" the pdfs. I also make a lot of them, so guess I will try to get an older version?

In Firefox, go to the menu at top, hit Tools/Options/Applications (or Edit/Preferences/Applications) and set pdf files to "preview in Firefox". If set to "Always ask", it will ask you whether to save to disk or view when a pdf link is clicked while in Firefox. When set to "preview in Firefox", it will open the pdf-file (or also a link in Windows file-explorer) in a new Firefox tab.

As an alternative, it looks like you can get choose between DC, 11, or even 10 on this Adobe page: https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

unfortunately, it seems the DC version wants to take over, no matter what I choose otherwise. Is there a way to circumnavigate this? I don't care for the looks of the pages in this newer version, and feel terrible that I screwed up somehow, things were going rather well, I thought.

Anyone know what to do to eliminate the DC on the download, so let me know. I tried 11 for Win 7 English version, and still got the DC, makes me angry for sure.

Maybe I should try the 10 version? comments please? I am bereft, I rely on pdf a great deal, and love Adobe program.

This is Adobe Acrobat PRO. Not DC version. Maybe...or maybe not...this will work. It's worth a try. Hippo may, also, have an earlier version....but I couldn't find it. Hope this helps.

gosh girl, thanks so much, will give it a go, anything to get away from that darn DC, just hate it!!!!!!!!!!!
Says download link has expired, but thanks anyway. Everyone has been helpful, and much appreciated.

Gee Shaddy...I just opened the link and hit download. Doesn't say anything about being expired on my system. Adobe is driving a lot of people crazy these days. They're about to add me to the list. Sigh. Hippo doesn't/has never offered programs...or anything, for that fact....that's expired. Is it possible you have a bigger problem lurking on your system?

As another thought...it seems that nothing of Adobe installs without their new addin ...airappinstaller.exe. I wonder if you install AIR first and then try the Acrobat PRO again if it will install. I've had AIR on my system for a while and it may be why I had no problem with the program download. At this point of frustration...it's worth a try.

Anne, I hit download, and it said it was going to, and then a blank page with download expired up in left corner, only printing on the page. OK, now, on to this, something is going on here, when I go to control panel, and click programs and features, I get icons, rather than writing listing what is available. Since the Adobe flash player update this has happened. Can or should I perhaps uninstall that, and start fresh?

Also, checking my XHD just to be nosey, ALL, and I mean ALL of the pdf files that I had stored there, are zipped files now, I agree Anne, there is something going on, gremlin in the computer I would say? Any thoughts on what or where to start? As I am always afraid of this happening, I am reluctant to do much, and so now this is overwhelming me, sorry to say. I am just not a computer whiz like so many are. I do manage to do the simple stuff but ...

and then, if this AIR needs to be installed, do I delete ALL previous downloads, or??? Perhaps get rid of Flashplayer and start there?

I don't know about the icons instead of list, or the zipped pdfs but...

I can't download from that link either. I get the same "This download link has expired." in Firefox. (Tried in both Linux and Windows)

    In IE8, I get a just get a 404 error.

Obviously...whatever is going on...it's not simple. As you didn't post what system you have...any pertinent facts about it...what version of Windows you're running...what anti malware/anti virus programs you're running...I'm really at a loss what to advise you at this point, Shaddy. Actually...my best advice would be to send you to a computer repair shop that you know and trust. Recommendations are difficult because I know nothing about your geographic location. I live in the northeast and wouldn't hesitate to use the local Staples computer repair service if my private source was no longer available...or if I couldn't root out and correct the problem myself. But beyond that...I'm of little help.

The fact that all your PDF files are now zipped is a concern. I do hope that you have backed up your files...have them stored in a secondary location.

The corrective answer to your systems problem may be simple. You could have a series of unrelated small glitches that together are causing a major issue but it's nearly impossible to discover it or them and/or help with it given the information known so far...and not being able to have a hands-on approach. I could recommend that you do a clean install of whatever Windows [or other] program you're using...if you have the original program disk...but in doing so, you'll lose all your files. If you've backed them up prior to this...you can always add them back into your system once you've done the re-installation.

I'm sorry, Shaddy...but I suggest the best approach now is to seek hands on professional assistance if you don't want to re-install your system.

Well, I guess I am never going to initiate again when an update of some kind comes along. I was tired, and thought to get it taken care of for next day, mistake I guess. I have an email to my computer guru, and hope he can help me to some degree. Appreciate all your thoughts, and time most of all. thanks again, and will see what comes of the geeks visit, and will let you know what transpired.
To know that there are complete strangers out there that will step to the plate to help someone in strife, means a great deal, and I do know that there are good folks in the world.

Don't be discouraged from learning more about your computer system, Shaddy. I, too, learned many moons ago not to work on mine when I'm tired. And now I have eye sight issues so I'm particularly careful.

Plus...of late...I'm seeing a myriad of user problems with Adobe programs.
I have my own suspicions as to what's causing them and some internet documented support for my own thoughts...but that doesn't always help someone else with their problem. Acrobat requires a license. If that license isn't obvious...or is damaged...or was accidentally deleted...or never existed in the first place...that could account for users not being able to reload or update that particular program. Adobe is tightening up their past "generosity" in allowing users to download their licensed programs for free. I don't mean to indicate that this is your particular problem. It's just an observation of mine.

This is a good group of people who will try their darnedest to help a computer user in need. Over the years I've seen a lot of talent in this group...and those who will take your hand and lead you through to a positive conclusion. Sometimes, it's just not a realistic possibility. I think you've elected the best option with your current situation and I, for one, look forward to reading what transpires.

    Good luck, Shaddy.

Alright ladies and gents, my computer geek was here, did the deed, and I am back to normal again. As the phone rang when he was accomplishing this, I did not, and never did find out what he did to help me, but I had uninstalled Adobe, so I know he had to reinstall that, and did, so am just pleased to have the force back where it should be, and I can continue my daily putzing around. I was sure it wasn't something too serious, and if it had been am sure he would have made it a point to get down to the details, but as he didn't, perhaps the reinstall took better, and can move ahead. Thanks again to all that stepped up to comment, add their thoughts, and even links to things, all was most helpful. These machines will be the death of me yet, one day things work just great, next day, scratching head. Case in point the airplane and wall street debacle today. Internet it great as long as we can control what is going on, when something else takes over, that sure makes for problems.
I betcha I will be back again one day with another glitch to complain about. Meantime, thanks again, and stay strong folks, must win over the machines!

I love happy endings! Thanks for coming back to tell us, Shaddy. As far as I'm concerned...you're always welcome here...for whatever reason. :-)
