HOW TO "FINISH" SURFACE OF KITCHEN GARDEN WINDOW

Looking for ideas to finish off the bottom surface of our garden window as we get ready to install the tile backsplash. I first wanted the tile to go into the window but due to the "shifting" that could happen where the seam is between window and ledge, this is not advisable. We ill be adding window trim and the subway tiles will come up just to the level of the bottom of the cabinets on left. What to do?

Thanks. I should have mentioned that this window is south/west facing and gets a lot of sun. Too much. We plan to build an arbor outside -- on the "someday" list.

It is not so much what the material should be, but how would it meet up with the ledge? I'd like it to all be the same level without a step up/down?
