Could you use the same, but lay it different from the floor or add a bit of a contrast in backsplash bit like in pic, make it a bit more interesting

The tile is only available in 6 by 12 or 12 by 24. The only pattern we can have is a brick joint pattern for both flooring and backsplash because of the tile size.

How can we make it more interesting ??? I want to make my kitchen very simple but still elegant and contemporary

In regard to doing the same tile for flooring and backsplash-I don't typically do that. Don't really need the floor on the wall.

Accents are great, does not mean that you cannot still have simplicity and elegance. It just adds interest. For instance use a metallic tile. (Like accessorizing a little black dress).

There are tons of very contemporary metallic and art glass tiles that would make a really unique space. Again, I would not use the same tile on the floor that I would use on the walls.

There is nothing wrong with that choice other than it is very ordinary and not particularly special, but it is "simple" and inexpensive. Did you check out the inexpensive but very interesting home depot tile I linked above?

Design Intervention Yes, the only problem is that it is a cleaning nightmare for me. I cook a lot so with the above home depot tile that you mentioned about it will be very hard to clean having that tile as backsplash.

Absolutely you can! Especially if you're going for a contemporary/industrial feel. Going with the same size for both the floor and backsplash will help obtain that look as well. I'm a fan of laying it horizontally offset by 1/3
