Week 62: Doldrums of summer

I'll admit it. I started the summer season with many plans for what I was going to accomplish before fall. We are now (in my area at least) half way through summer and I've only accomplished a few things on the list.

Summer hits and I'm frankly more interested in daily swimming and weekend barbeques than I am in accomplishing goals;even though I KNOW I will feel better and happier if I JUST get it done.

It's difficult to remember the stress and frustration of the unfinished inside of the house when I'm spending all day every day outside.

What about you? Does summer and nice weather make you want to put everything inside on hold while you live outdoors or do you view it as a great time to finish up inside projects?

As a side note: where are all my "old timers" and how are your projects going? CEF, schicksal, Doug, Christina, MGMum, mushcreek, anyone else I forgot....how go your projects?

My indoor projects have been completely put on the back burner (LOL) with the cooler weather. But today, we went 'to town' and got some floor tiles for the living room. They're vinyl (fake wood) and look like parquet flooring....and I think they'll be perfect for the space.

Eventually, we might put carpet back down, but for now, this is going to be so much easier to clean! One big area rug under the coffee table (still looking) but something leafy and green.

We'll probably put the floor down on Sunday (back up to 91 degrees that day) but then it will be out to the garden again! We'll probably get the kitchen remodel started by the end of the summer. So much to do outside. Found this picture, while posting over on another forum....and can't believe how fast our little ones grow up! Off topic, but very cute :)

The only indoor work we've done is to change a few light bulbs. Summer weather is precious in the PNW. There'll be plenty of rainy days in the future to get work done. A bit of garden work but not enough.

    Enjoy that pool. :)

    Super-cute horses, Lavender.

    Lavender, they're so cute!

Well, my bathroom is in progress, but in my opinion is going too slowly. LOL Isn't that always the way? I have to contact him first thing Monday morning, because I'd like it done by next Friday as the following week I have to go away for work for the week. Other than that there is a heat alert this weekend. I work, so I'll be fine with the A/C. I've also finally made an appt for the van to get the A/C repaired. A guy at work helped me "re-charge" it but it didn't work, so we know there is a leak somewhere. My mechanic is good but he's a good distance away so I'm hoping I can bum a ride home from someone because I don't want to be sitting there all day.

Too hot and humid to do anything outside this weekend, so we are still putting away the last of the kitchen, hanging curtains, etc. Ninety degrees with 80-90% humidity is just ugly.

I've been searching last night and this morning.....trying to find where I put those @*&$%* screws and directions for my garden arbor. I remember bringing them inside last fall (to keep from losing them) and I've gone through two closets and a pantry cabinet....still no luck.

So, I was going to work in the garden, but ended up sorting (and cleaning) instead :)

Well the weather is lovely at the moment...:) I just finished watering out front. Now to the back. Need to refill a few pots and tubs with new "edibles" seeds as well.

Tomorrow we drive to Wenatchee to drop the youngest at football camp. Hubby and I will have a late lunch date in Leavenworth. Monday the college students head to Pullman for orientation. Everyone returns Wednesday. That means I make a round trip to Wenatchee to pick up #3.

I have a kitchen design plan, I have cabinet choices, I have almost nailed down counter tops and flooring. Back splash ideas rolling around but not the priority. (Last remodel took me 4 years though...so better have a game plan.) lol ....So now just waiting on an Ikea sale.....

Today is our 23rd Anniversary. He's off doing what he loves..."yelling at other people's children" aka Youth Football Coach. :>)

I am putzing around trying to decide my next move.. Yep life is good.

I've already had a busy summer baseball ended Thursday. Football started...

I have 2 more weeks of my 4 week "vacation"... Still have that coffee table to get finished. (My one and only goal for my time off.)

    Happy Anniversary Terri_

We'd planned on getting the floor down and picking and buying the countertops. But no dice. He's working 24/7 and I'm working 24/6. No more vacation time and the last one went by in a flash. Plus son is worse health wise this month so we focus on him lots.

After 30+ years in FL, we've kind of flipped our seasons, doing more outdoors things in the cooler months, and hunkering down inside during the heat of summer. This summer has been a bear- almost continuously in the 90's and humid, but NO RAIN. It's not fun to garden when it's hot out and you have to water every day just to keep things alive. Some summers here in SC are pretty nice- in 2013, we only had a handful of days in the 90's.

As for my 'project'- we passed our final inspections for mechanical, plumbing, and electric. Once I have finished floor in the kitchen and baths, we're done, at least as far as the County is concerned. Then we can start paying higher taxes (yay). The reclaimed pine flooring is supposed to be in this week, so it can start acclimating while I do the kitchen and bathroom floors. We'll probably be done with everything by early fall. Some things will have to wait, like crown molding and a finished mudroom, but we need to get on with life.

100 degrees every day this week. With humidity. I can't even sit on the mower without getting out of breath and dehydrated. I'm giving up outside work and going to the beach for a few days. Like that bit of water makes a big difference! LOL!

Good job, all! inspections, sorting, decisions. All.

Here in MD it's going to be in the 90s, with a 100F+ heat index. I've done very little outside, other than continued spraying. Deer, borers, poison ivy. An occasional small child -- just kidding. Wanted to see if you were paying attention!

I keep trying to do a few things outside, but the heat is unbearable. I have a truck load of bricks right now I MUST unload, but.. it's just so hot.

I have been selling on CL. Another pair of French doors (paid $60, sold $200) three of my duplicate Japanese maples (breaks my heart, but $200) and working like a dog.

I did build myself a small bench or foot stool the other day, but we had a cool, 82F. I am also working on planing down my cabinet drawer fronts on one cab, so they fit more deeply into the beaded inset frames. I don't like them to protrude. One or two a day, because even THAT is hot!

So now I'm staring out the window at 1/2 mowed grass. It's well over my knees, but my mower is broken and I have to go borrow my neighbor's again. The thing is, mine seems to mulch it all and his makes hay. So I blame the heat and do nothing.

I dread August. Deep, solar depression and inertia sets in.

I haven't done much, house wise (shocker, I know!!) but I did decide that the time capsule was a good idea so I've had my kids make pictures and write letters to go in it.

My 7 year old is particularly obsessed. I keep telling her what she has written is fine, and then she quips "but I haven't written down my third favorite show to watch" or "I haven't written down ALL of my favorite books yet!!

I swear, if Star Trek technology did exist, she would be the one insisting on a holographic projection of herself at this age that you could interact with. Which truthfully, would be pretty cool! ;)

Hope to finish the time capsule this week and get it properly sealed in the wall!

Great projects! We are doing some window repairs with some help. Our 28 year old windows needed some help - but my bicycle is calling and having awesome weather was making it hard to stay inside.

I am also practicing my Italian every day to get ready for our trip to Italy in the fall to celebrate our 20th anniversary Terri - congrats on 23!

Tex- great idea and so much fun!
