Hi peg leg, sorry I am getting into the conversation late, but hope I can help. I have been saving a lot of items after extensive research with prices towards remodeling for universal design because I am raising 4 kids and am in and out of a wheelchair. Without an accessible home, I found myself more and more home bound. So suggestions: 1) I would be happy to share my links if someone tells me best way to do so (it's on another site) 2) I imagine/hope you are in application for SSI for your son. It is a process, but even more than any meager direct financial help you may get, having him as government disabled will get him many services not otherwise available 3) I would have to look into CA, but many states have a much faster line to disability services through the state medical review team under the department of health. You should have an open intake number for your county for all county services, and let them know you need a county case manager through disability (not social security) and that should start your path. If you have private insurance, they also will cover a case manager through a contracted agency who can help with resources. Your best person to ask of you do not know where to start if your son's occupational therapist. There are numerous non-profits in each county that specialize-!for example that do free installations on mobility changes. 4) safety and independence first- there are people I work with in MN and around the world who are deeply committed to universal design and/or online health. On the bathroom, having a similar one I was advised the best bet is a full Wetroom - your son will need a PCA (which you can get free from insurance or county) and glass or half walls get in the way. A curtain from the ceiling can give a beautiful way to separate out for other users (e.g. Pulled back next to the toilet) but not provide any barriers for your son or PCA. The system John mentioned is the best option- the whole room can get wet and still be both accessible and beautiful. 5) A visitable wheelchair access will change your son's life. They make 2" door extender hinges that may make the difference. I have also found many low-cost high impact products and ideas I would be happy to share from ramping to adaptable solutions.. sometimes just removing something will give the turnaround and entry space your son needs. 6) from catastrophic accidents, to aging in place and everything in between, there is a huge demand and little information available. To everyone else in the conversation- I have become convinced that a cause-related multi media program could enable learning for all by showcasing projects through television and web that showcases products and professionals and gets people in need rehabs in the process. Wallpaper in hey combo metallic pattern inside the niches. They can be all the same...or different patterns with same metallic. Or, you could paint them much darker. You need to buy a round mirror and put it up so that when you are liking in it...that you are centred in the mirror. Mirror should not be larger than countertop. You will be able to mount a small glass shelf between the mirror and countertop. If you have space under your bathroom sink cabinet...find yourself or build yourself a drawer with small wheels for extra storage. Put a really shinny cabinet pull and towel hooks or bars to match the chrome finish of your faucet. Oh, if you have a shower curtain, buy one that is long enough to be hung from the ceiling...this makes a nice difference on the appearance of night. So, if you have a bulkhead there, then put it in front above the bulkhead. Nice job so far.

Beautiful INSTALLATION! First and foremost...the INSTALLATION is EXCELLENT (the human doing the work). The stone looks the way it is supposed to look - the darker "wet look" is the "finished" look. I'm going to guess you wanted the "light/dusty" look of the tiles that you saw on the shelf. Sadly that is not the look that you will end up with. The tile store should have pointed that out to you...but it is a little late for that now. You have some decisions to make. Ask yourself if you have the BUDGET to remove these and source ANOTHER TILE that will NOT CHANGE after install (here's a hint...work with porcelain not real stone...stone always changes due to treatments needed to keep it healthy). The product you are removing is not defective and it was properly installed. It is going to cost you the price of labour to remove, the cost of new tile and the cost of labor to install the new stuff. You will pay for this install 2.5 times (cost of removal more than doubles the cost of this part of the project). If you don't like the "finished/wet" look then the wrong tile was chosen. To change it will cost you because this was not a mistake of the installer nor the defective material. Good luck. It is a very handsome finish but you are the one who must be happy at the end of the day. Take a moment to figure out what you are willing to pay for vs. what you are willing to live with.

One other question and forgive my ignorance and my terrible fast mockup here....but to create a non linear effect, why do they not incorporate the grout as part of the design? Why do they always cut right to the edge when doing a frame? Why not just let the grout serve as a background ....like this if the grout were black hypothetically.. You only see stick straight, edge to edge tile work. Just thinking if grout were used as the background, some designers could probably create magical things inside the frames...some of the grout has little glitter and stuff so if it were thought of as neutral, wonder if they'd think of grout like a canvas....just a thought. With all the beautiful shaped water jets, thinking it could be so freeing to have non straight edges of the tile...No? Just thinking of the possibilities of where tile work could go.. Wouldn't it be cool if the tile itself were available not as interlocking but as a single piece? For instance ...what if the tile were a single 3ft x3 ft. piece (like one large waterjet) that sits inside a frame with a distinctive edge that is left as is....not squared off with a cut from another piece....and the grout is it's background for instance.. Like what if these were just floating inside a feature wall frame....connect as many as you'd like, but when you are done, you leave the edges curvy on a background of a pretty grout color?
