It's particle board, which is not a hallmark of fine furniture. If I had to guess, I would say it's from the 80s. I'm with rococogurl on the value. As to whether it's worth fixing, I guess it depends on how much it needs.

It may be worth using, if it is sturdy, but it's not really worth fixing if it costs much.

I concur. However, if you can get it for very inexpensively ($5 or $0) then it might be worth the practice of trying your hand at repair, since you're a novice. But only because you'd want to use it once it's repaired.

By what I can see, it appears the under workings are solid wood. It really depends on what the "few things" are. More details needed please.
