Pottery Barn Slip Covered Dining Room Chairs

I am about to buy 8 side chairs for my PB Sumner dining room table.

I love these chairs, and have a 20% coupon.

Does anyone have any experience with these or know of another brand that is about the same price but better?

They will only be used for large gatherings when I need to put 10 around the table, and will be in storage the rest of the time. I have other armed chairs for the ends of the table.

But... but what about the BBQ sauce??

Slipcovers! And will only be pulled out a few times a year! I will get an extra cover or two also. Lots of people have white furniture btw.

They look beautiful in one of the photos, grouped about a table. Is your dining room similar in size and style? I too would worry about stains but they are slipcovers so maybe not so bad. Pretty pricey tho.

100% cotton canvas -- washable and bleachable, but it also shrinks & wrinkles upon washing & drying. Beautiful chairs, but how practical are they really?

Gee, I had no idea people had white furniture. The things you learn on GW.

I want the white furniture people to chime in as I want to be one of them.

I was wondering if anyone had slip covered chairs that are easy enough to clean, put back on and hold up without falling apart.

We have many pieces of light (not bright white) furniture. So I'm chiming in. I do not know anything about the PB dining chairs though. Doesn't Ikea have something similar - would be cheaper, but again I don't know about the quality of either. BTW, I have a slipcovered loveseat and chair in our sunroom - they are used daily. More of a cream color. Have had them several years and still look great. BTW, I should note it's only the two of us (and one small pup) - no children.

Thanks you all. This is all very helpful, particularly the shrinkage.

I like my natural colored slipcovers. Yes some one can spill bbq sauce, but what if they spilled on your dining chair? Unless you are using all wood or vinyl, it is going to stain. Being able to take it right off and treat the stain with out damaging the frame of the chair is a nice thing. Personally, I would look for a less expensive version, but that is due to my wallet, I would probably love these if I could afford them. You can find other covers so you can switch out if you get tired of the white. Since I am busy sewing my own slip covers right now, yes they can wrinkle and shrink. But taking them out of the dryer while still fairly damp can make it easier to stretch them to put on. I have an older and much loved couch that has had the covers washed a lot with no issues with the seams. I did replace the seat cover because over time (and with the help of the dog) was not coming as clean as I would like

I have the Ikea Ektorp sofa and loveseat/chaise, slipcovered in white. I live with a sloppy husband, two college kids (home for summers, holidays, etc.), and a dog. The slipcovers have held up beautifully -- I can wash them and bleach them. I pull them out of the dryer when they are about 75-80% dry, put them back on, and can smooth out any significant wrinkles.

I don't know if Ikea's dining chair slips are the same material, but my sofa slipcovers have not shrunk that I have noticed, nor are wrinkles a huge issue.

Just checked, the Ikea Henriksdal slipcover is the same 100% cotton fabric as my sofa slips.

My daughter has the Henriksdal slipcovered DR chairs in her condo. So far she hasn't had to clean them. Bleach is not recommended, but you can wash them:

    Removable cover
    Machine wash ,hot 140°F (60°C).
    Do not bleach.
    Do not tumble dry.
    Iron, high temperature.
    Dryclean, normal cycle.
Light stains can be removed with a textile cleaner or a damp sponge and a mild soapy solution.

I have looked at the IKEA Henrik. chairs but I don't like them as much. The PB chairs have a top rolled edge I really like and on sale and with my coupon. aren't much more. But thank you! I do like options!!
