Can whirlpool tub be converted to regular tub?
Comments (185)We were wandering around the PVC tube section at Home Depot and found knock out test caps like these: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-4-in-ABS-Pipe-Test-Cap-with-Knockout-39103/100113503?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&mtc=Shopping-VF-F_D26P-G-D26P-26_1_PIPE_AND_FITTINGS-MULTI-NA-Feed-LIA-NA-NA-PIPE_AND_FITTINGS_General&cm_mmc=Shopping-VF-F_D26P-G-D26P-26_1_PIPE_AND_FITTINGS-MULTI-NA-Feed-LIA-NA-NA-PIPE_AND_FITTINGS_General-71700000055362044-58700005218218026-92700046076001524&gclid=Cj0KCQiAoab_BRCxARIsANMx4S5krIsf9nAhlTsGOoWGJFrGN123o0L6PFswoGz4SZFe18yLPF5et6EaAqp7EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds They fit over our whirlpool jet openings...we managed to take the heads off the openings and unscrew the intake cover. Hopefully with some intense glue and silicone caulking we can finally have a soaking tub....See MoreThis or That: Regular Linen VS Flannel
Comments (107)Does flannel come in different quality? The ones I tried got all piley. I do like a brand new set of flannels until they have to be washed a couple times. They are warm and quiet. HOWEVER, High count Egyptian cotton is the best!! I can't go back. Ugh, this last time I accidentally bought microfiber (polyester) sheets. It said on the label- Egyptian "comfort", not cotton, and 1000 "series", not thread count . They are terribly unbreathable and sound like taffeta. READ CAREFULLY IF BUYING SHEETS ON AMAZON....See MorePOLL: Are hot tubs worth the money?
Comments (152)Reasons not to own a hot tub: * You can't be bothered with or commit to the testing and upkeep. Yes, it is a wonderful thing to have, but there is a work component to it too (but it becomes easy once you figure out how to get everything just right in your tub). No dealer mentions this to anyone until after it's bought; up front they act like these things take care of themselves. * If you are not the type to commit to closely monitoring and addressing water balance and sanitation, you could end up slightly sick, badly sick, or worse. * Because you're neighbour has one and you just want to keep up with the Jones' * You can't deal with the trip to and from the tub in cold weather (or going back out to oxidize/sanitize and strap the cover back on in the winter), if applicable to where you live. * You'll generate a lot of towel laundry...lol. Things not to waste money on: * Fancy spa shop chemicals, which are mostly nothing more than common grocery store items repackaged as specialty products and loaded with fillers. * Lights Things to spend on: * Getting exactly the spa you want. Don't settle for fewer jets, smaller size, layout, etc., for the sake of $$$. It's a luxury good, something to enjoy, and something you (hopefully) will buy once in ten years. Be sure to wet test. Hot tubs are more expensive to own than many realize when they make the purchase. You can reduce your life cycle costs by buying a simple, energy efficient tub. Don't be seduced by fancy lights, water features, sound sytems or high jet count. If you don't need serious hydrotherapy you can buy a quality new tub for 5,000 maybe less maybe more depending on how many will use it most of the time. I am not a hot tub person but I sure do enjoy my hot tub. We rarely socialize in ours but it is about the only place where I take time to do a series of stretches and when we tub just before turning in for the night sleep comes easily. This might help....See MoreSurprise100 year old brick chimney as we tore walls down
Comments (26)Thank you all for the feedback. The kitchen was the recipient of a bad remodel job in the 80's. They had drywalled over the chimney and had relocated the furnace to a crawl space under the addition. While I did see the old remnants of the chimney (non-working) in the basement, none of us anticipated the stack in the kitchen. Removing for more storage (especially in a tiny kitchen such as this!) is very tempting. There is an original brick fireplace in the formal living room. The exterior of the home is also brick, so I felt the need to keep it to tie in...? As an aside, the family room in the basement - (across the house from the old chimney), was hiding an old brick chimney as well. It used to vent out the main floor but also had been drywalled over. It doesn't work but am I going to frame it out just as something interesting to look at. :) Thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions. Going with the marble. Thanks for the reinforcement. Usually my need of assurance from others is low but not when it comes to this house. 'Old' is all new to me! :) Val...See Morejustalurker
