Asus Tablet Question

I have an Asus Tablet TF300T which I just love. Use it every single day. Recently it has started to turn itself off. I will be reading and all of a sudden, it goes off. Eventually, it will come back on when I press the on button, but sometimes it takes quite some time for this to happen. This is my first tablet, so my experience with tablets is limited. Have had the tablet for Does anyone think the tablet may be in the beginning stages of permanently shutting down?

Sounds like something is wrong. How old is it?

Have you tried calling Asus tech support?

I have had it for just over two years. (Meant to put that info in the message above.) I have not called Asus - honestly didn't even think about it.

Does it come back on immediately when you press the button? Mine had begun going into a quicker than normal power save mode and you reminded me to check the power settings. When I press the power button, it comes on immediately so it's only in sleep mode, not really off.

I've got the TF201 with the mobile dock, loving it for several years now.

It does not come back on immediately when I press the button. And, usually, I have to press the button several times before it starts coming back on.

Do you have to press it until it vibrates to turn back on? I found a setting in Display (on mine) that was set to turn off the display in 1 minute, so literally my screen went dark while awaiting an app to refresh. Obviously, that will run down the battery faster, but it must have been an update that caused it to change the display setting.

Maybe your power button is wearing out if it isn't shutting all the way down (it vibrates when it's coming up from a complete shutdown) and requires multiple button presses to wake up?

I would consider a misbehaving app. Try removing as many apps as possible you can re-install one at a time to see if you can find the problem app. I have the exact same tablet and dock keyboard. It is a wonderful tablet. Apps can cause all kinds of problems. Check out your resources to find out if any apps are hogging it. Keep an eye on running apps and resources.

You can certainly try contacting Asus for assistance. Another great resource are the forums, especially the dedicated forum for that specific tablet.

You can also try a full reset back to factory to see if it helps but you need to backup everything. I have found many times my problems lead to an app or a bad update to an app.

Go to Google and type in "Asus tablet turns off." Someone else somewhere along the way has had this problem and someone else has provided the solution. I do this with my cell phone questions all the time.

Googled, found lots of links, but nothing that truly answered my concerns. I did install a new app about three weeks ago, so that might be the culprit. Will uninstall it and see if that helps. Thanks you all for the suggetions.

I followed the suggestion to search Google for asus tf300t shuts off.

Have you turned it off and back on yet?

    What about a Cold Boot?

Cold Boot - wiping the system cache partition (sometimes called Hard Reset)
Unplug the power cord and shut the unit off. Press and hold the VOL
DOWN and then POWER button at the same time for at least 10-12 seconds
until after the start-up screen appears and is joined by some small
print at the top left of the screen then let them both go. If the TF booted
the way it always does, you have not accomplished the task, try again
until you have seen the 2 icons, (if you have Jelly Bean there will be 4
icons, the left most being RCK, which is correct), in the screen.

After a few seconds you should see a couple of shapes in the middle of
the screen called "Wipe Data" and "Android". The right "Android" will
have a green highlight fading in and out. Wait a few more seconds until
    the term "Cold Booting Linux"
appears in the list near the top of the screens and let it reboot. If
you own a keyboard dock be sure you do this with the dock connected. If
you are using JB there will be 4 icons, disregard the 2-4 icons unless
instructed and the 1st icon (RCK) will be flashing..

This applies to all TF models, however, if your Prime or Infinity are
locked up, there is a reset available using the hole just below the SD Card slot, this is NOT the same as a cold boot.

If your TF is on 4.2 press vol down key to choose the
middle Android icon & once you do that press the vol up key, that
will start the cold boot process.

Remember it takes mere seconds to uninstall all the downloaded apps, then just go back to the play store under your apps and reinstall one at a time. Just like a computer when a program starts to have problems the first thing to try is uninstall and fresh install, same with these apps, they are not all written by the best coders and can often be corrupted. My tablet I am using now was having a crashing problem, closing down, it turned out to be a bad update to the browser I am using. It started as soon as the update went out and suddenly there were lots of comments on the download page at the play store about it. That's a good place to check out problems with apps see what the reviews are saying. Especially any new apps get rid of them. It's so easy to do and you won't lose anything.

Uninstalled what I thought might be the cause of the shut offs and haven't had a shutoff since. Was just trying to remember what in the heck it was and can't even remember. I am embarrassed.

Yes as I said always look at the apps! It's amazing how much one misbehaving app can cause havoc on the device. Removing apps should be first step.

Great to hear you are having a better go.
