Plantation shutters, while pretty, are not very functional. You would be better off installing woven wood shades (which will provide texture and privacy) and combine with draperies to soften the room and frame out the windows. The hard, tall book case dominates this room and the windows fall flat. You also need to get a stronger floor lamp. You have beautiful tall ceilings in this home and your lamps are too small scaled for such a large room. Good luck!

You can see in solar shades at night. I would choose for all windows, even the smaller one, just have it hung outside the window frame and to the floor, Hunter Douglas Luminettes or a product like it. Then add a mock Roman Shade in a nice fabric..Maybe a solid color with wide binding of a different color..hang them at the ceiling (if you are installing crown molding you must account for that space when designing & hanging the Roman Shade) and have them cover the tops of the Luminettes.

I was thinking of doing the whole room in the 3rd from left, excaliber gray, and then doing the stencil over it with the leftmost color, heaven, but the stencil only behind the headboard. I would appreciate any brutally honest comments as I am very color challenged!

Hi Jade, Those are striking :) You should be able to have a workroom manufacture these for a very reasonable price. Basically it is a scarf swag, looks like a single width of yardage and then a few balloons / Italian stringing pulled in to create the 'poufs'.
