Speed queen hesitations

I think I've decided on a Speed Queen (less expensive electronic model), but I have two hesitations. Any insights would be much appreciated!

1. How do they preform with delicates? I don't have much specialty laundry, just the typical women's wardrobe. Are they pretty rough on clothes? I know any agitator will be a bit rougher than a front load, but I'm wondering if they will do significant damage long term to items like bagged lingerie or thinner cotton shirts.

2. What can you comfortably fit in the load size? I would take King comforters out to be washed, but what about a king top and bottom sheet plus pillow cases in one load? Two twin beds at once?

this forum is so helpful, thank you in advance!

We have an AWS 542. Delicates wash OK as long as you turn them inside out so buttons won't snag or rub other clothes. Just make sure there is enough water for the wash. Take the King comforter out rather than wash. We wash king size sheets, pillow cases in one load with maximum load size selected, no problem, they come out clean and soft. Two twins are about one king so I would guess it would work too.

You can fit more than 2 twin complete sheet sets...you could also do 1 twin comforter & 1 twin sheet set together....I did a queen comforter ...so you may fit 2 twins. My new speed queen has done a great job on gentle and I use it a lot..I wouldn't hesitate if you want a SQ I hear they are getting hard to get..I'm 59 yo I've used a lot of washers in my life..this is hands down my favorite. .its also the last of the true old school washers...by the way you can fit a ton in it and get great turn over and clear rinsing. I can't say enough good about my Speed Queen.

I got the dial model cheaper than the electronic..I paid 719 $ before taxes...great thing about SQ you do not pay for warrenty

Lol sorry..yes you can fit king sheet set...I have to say if you like the old school washer with full fill and real hot water you will not regret a SPEED QUEEN...can you tell I love mine. I haven't talked to anyone that has one that doesn't love it.

Mouse, did you make a decision?

I can wash 3 queen sized sheets and 6 pillow cases and still have lots of turnover.

May, when I first thought about getting the SQ, the 3.3CF tub size made me hesitate, but I've found it bigger than my roper. I can wash much larger loads now and have great turnover. And with a large family that's important.

Mine is a year old but I find it can just barely fit my king sized sheet set. I wish it filled to the top (maybe the newer ones do).

I am not impressed with the delicate cycle. It spends most of the cycle just sitting there soaking and even agitating.

I don't regret getting it at all, but I do miss my old traditional Maytag that I had for 11 years.

stir_fryi Which machine did you buy?

    AWN 432 purchased last year.

stir_fryi I have the exact same machine. You can use the reset button to add more water.

Also there is a video on youtube showing how to fix it permanently to add more water. However, I have not done that myself. I only use the reset.

Love my AWN432 as for the delicate cycle, it does mostly soak, but that's ok with me,,I have found thru the years soaking can do a good job cleaning, the whole point to delicate cycle besides slower agitation is to wash as gently as possible, soakimg is a very gentle form of cleaning. If possiable increase water temperature and use a good detergent to help make up for lack of mechanical action. Also decide if the garments really need gentle, I know people here that wash very pricey work out clothes that the manufactor recommends gentle wash cool water..yet they get washed in very hot on normal cycle with great results.

As for the king size sheet set, those should fit fine, as Maylingsmom said hit the reset to add more water.

When I bought my SQ 3 weeks ago it filled to the top row of holes, for some reason it doesn't anymore, very strange, but I hold reset it doesn't take long. I know you can't load and go this way but there is no other washer that will come as close to your older maytag as the SQ.
