I am new here. Really new. Will get to pond questions later. But for now we desperately need trees or shrubs for privacy next to our pond that is mostly shaded. The ground will be moist but not submerged in water. Were in Westchester New York. I'd really appreciate some suggestions. Oh, and we have deer!!!! Than you.

Always best to start a new thread, but deer don't eat Spicebush, Bayberry, Buttonbush or Chokeberry. You can get a lot of privacy with those.

Free, if you are able, begin to investigate that which already is growing around you. It can seem impossible to long-time plant folks like a lot of us here, but some folks have simply never once looked around them to see what's what. There may just be lots of answers for you, right under your nose, so to speak.

ps....edited to add: Reading this back, I can see how I might have come off preachy or condescending. towards you-freedam- up above this. If so, I can only say I didn't mean it that way, just more as another direction to take along with the other suggestions. In any case, these guys-mad_gallica and laceyvail have got it covered.

Just a suggestion for ya, Sweetbay Magnolia. Native to US, prefers moist soil, can take water if it has to, (up to an inch), has pretty fragrant flowers during the summer. Look up online, just thought I would suggest a native.
