Am I at all on the right track?

Sorry for the so many posts on the same topic.

I've ordered the ivory slip covered couch, the sisal and blue rug, and the blue TV armoire. I own the painting already. I'm going to paint the walls white or cream. The floor is red (brazilian cherry) but I'm willfulling ignoring that.

The rest of the items I am thinking about:

-Cast stone fireplace surround

-leather chairs (one or the other, color TBD)

-blue striped linen drapes

-pagoda light

-console table for behind the sofa

-leather ottoman as coffee table (color TBD)

-rope lamp

-reclaimed wood side tables

What do you think?

Thanks! I would get the ottoman and the chair in the same leather, I think.

    I've now ordered the lamps...:)

Any opinion on the which curtains? There are 5 windows, so a lot of panels.

The curtains are perfect, I prefer the brown combo better too. You're doing good girl!

I like the floral drapes because they have the brown of the leather and the blue really accents the armoire without making it the absolute center of attention. Those curtains act as a great backdrop for all your choices.

The other blue drapes for me, read as oh look at the blue curtains and oh look at the blue armoire without paying attention to much else. Hopefully that makes sense.

Now, if you really, really like blue then maybe that is a good choice for you. But I do like the other ones better.

Much much better. I too like the floral drapes since they blend your colors. What color are you planning for the walls? With 5 windows I'm just thinking it might be busy, but you have no other pattern so it will probably look fine. And if I recall your room, the windows are spread out over the room.

I like the floral drapes too. They and the armoire, sofa table, and light all have an Asian feel. Is that on purpose?

    I agree with Rgrs

The browns seem overly dark if you are still going for the British seaside cottage mood

I liked the blue leather chair better than the brown, but I wouldn't do three colors of leather. One -- maybe two, in a room. You've veered away from the blue and white look you had going some time back and you're heading towards another beige and brown room with a little pale blue. Is that more neutral and less color the look and feel you want?

blfenton - thanks. I am quite drawn to the cherry blossom drapes, so I'm glad you like them.

outsideplaying - yes, the windows are fairly spread out. I wanted to bring in some more pattern with pillows and cushions for the window seats, but I was trying to get the big pieces done first. I'm going to paint the room cream. Top contender right now is C F's choice of SW Eaglet Beige:

Mayflowers - yes, the asian feel is sort of on purpose. My DH is Chinese, so he likes that stuff :)

rgrs - pretty room and pretty chair!

emmarene - yeah, it is a little dark, but I was also trying to tie in the floor color a bit.

lascatx - well, what happened is that I got really scared of trying to match the whites, and I really loved that armoire. None of the white colors were very good with my trim color. So I decided to order the blue one. Then when I started this thread I was trying to decide between the navy blue leather, the lighter blue grey leather, or the brown leather, for both the chair and the coffee table/ottoman. But I wasn't very clear about that in my post. I was never going to order 3 different colors of leather! :) Then everyone said they liked the brown one better. I'm not sure that the blue armoire goes with the navy leather, and the sample I got seems almost black which I didn't want.

Here is what they look like together:

    1) trim, armoire, echo blue marlin leather, eaglet beige paint, ivory fabric, sisal rug

    1. mont blanc storm leather, eaglet beige paint, sisal rug, ivory sofa fabric, trim, armoire

      3) trim, armoire, mont blanc caramel leather, eaglet beige paint, sisal rug, ivory sofa fabric

      4) same as above with echo cognac leather

Looking at this now, I'm not sure that the armoire looks very nice with the rug, but I can't really change those now :(

I like the armoire and the color. I think it will be great. Don't go for matchy-matchy. Match-poo sterilizes a room.

I can hardly wait to see how this room comes together! I really like the direction you're taking it.

    Thanks Tibbrix and Auntjen!

I ordered one of each of the curtains and will see how they match the armoire, the rug, the trim paint, and how they match the leathers. If I go with the floral ones I may see what color the branches are and sort of pull from that.

The armoire is going to look great on the rug as they both have the same informal (I don't want to say rustic because that over defines the look) feel.

This is me being so demanding :) sorry - I think I like the second combination but just wondering if you can retake the picture with the leather sample beside the sisal rug. I think that's my favourite combination and #4 with the echo cognac leather for second place.

I'm glad you ordered both curtain samples because now having seen all the sample upclose I'm worried that the cherry blossom curtains might not be weighty enough. Although the more feminine look of them might look great as a balance.

    Butternut thanked blfenton

Love the look you're going for! Nice balance of colors, textures and relative visual weight.

Thanks blfenton! It's really hard to capture the color of that leather (mont blanc storm). It's a greyish faded denim-y color. It's really pretty. I'm wondering if I would be better off with something more like the Cognac color though, to bring in the flooring color a bit more.

this one came closest to the true color:

These are pieces that are supposedly made out of that color:

butternut - thanks so much for that because it really helped. It is a gorgeous colour but I think you're right I think #4 is now my first choice. I also think that the cognac colour will sit on the carpet better. But now we'll see what happens when the drapes come in. Looking forward to seeing pics of those.

I like the last grouping you posted - those items seem to work well with the dark color in the rug. The fabric on the bottom looks good too.

I like the Mont Blanc Storm but I also liked the first blue leather chair.

    Butternut thanked emmarene9

I am concerned that the cognac is too red and will emphasize that floor. I think the Mont Blanc Storm would be my choice of those. I think I have seen that leather and if so, it is not like the photos of the finished pieces. Those appear to have been overexposed to show the details of the pieces but at the expense of the color representation.

I agree with you on the blues that look almost black -- don't like them, I did that with my front door paint but that was to be almost black but different. I wasn't looking for "blue."

Any thoughts on either of these side tables? I've "tried" a bunch of different tables in the space with the lamps and feel like they need to be fairly traditional to balance the traditional chair and ottoman with the more casual/rustic lamps and armoire.

    1) Available immediately. 24" diameter.

    2) Wouldn't get here til after Xmas. Only 19" diameter. Matches better, I think?

Am I allowed to prefer the very first pic? I do like the lovely brown leather chair. So masculine. Could you make that your hubbie's chair? You need some guy representation here, methinks :-)

The side table in the first board is this PB one: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/barlett-wood-metal-side-table/?pkey=ccoffee-side-console-tables%7Cside-tables%7C&&ccoffee-side-console-tables|side-tables|

But I decided I didn't like the idea of the rough top. The one you posted is very pretty but much more than I wanted to spend :)

I didn't want wicker, etc., cause I thought it would be too much texture with the rope lamp?

I also really liked these Joss nesting tables, but I need 2 tables and think it would be weird to order 2 sets. Or to use different heights. Right?

I use 2 sets of nesting tables and love them...

    Butternut thanked User

My 2 cents~the armoire should be the only piece of furniture that is blue. The sofa/chair would be too much. The print drapes will help to bring in more of the blue. Don't go overboard with it.

Of the posted side tables I like #1 the best. I love the way it follows the lines of the light. Then #3 and no to #2.

Have you received the window treatment samples yet?

    Butternut thanked blfenton

I have the navy ones but the flowered ones are due in tomorrow.

Blfenton, what do you think of the nesting tables? I suppose it would be convenient for my parties to have extra surfaces, esp since the main cocktail table will be an ottoman.

I like the nesting tables but right now I don't love them. I think I would have to see them with the window treatments. What is the table top? Is it distressed or a pale wood or a white wash.

Thanks, blfenton...Hard to tell from the listing. They look a little distressed to me.

You are creating such a pretty, serene room! I'm so eager to see how this all plays out in the end! I think the nesting tables are very pretty, and like tables #1 and #2 almost equally - with perhaps a slight leaning towards #1.

I found the nesting tables on Wayfair too, at a higher price (??)

They seem to get overall good reviews, though, so I may just order them.

The next decision is what color to get for the cast fireplace. Limstone, right?

    last modified: 10 years ago

I love the way you keep sticking your choices into your board. The legs of the nesting tables go really well with the legs of the ottoman. When will the tables arrive? I don't think I would make any decisions that require taking the tables into consideration until they arrive. Just can't find what the top actually is but according to comments it appears to be a rustic weathered look and that along with the scalloped edges would tie in with the tv cabinet.

    Butternut thanked blfenton

It'll be a few weeks before the tables come, I think Joss is slow with shipping.

The curtains came...unfortunately my cherry blossom curtains are sort of shiny in person and cheap looking, and the background is a pink undertone beige which will not work :(

The blue ones are ok but not super psyched about them, I guess.

    Toile?? :)

Oh, I like the toile! It looks good with the armoire and it will give you a nice design, but not too busy. I like this better than the stripe OR the floral :)

    Butternut thanked Lavender Lass

That's a shame -- liked those, but I'd probably be turned off by shiny too, and even if not cheap looking, it doesn't seem like the sheen would go with what you are putting together.

Do you have the rug already? If not, something like this might work, but if you do, the patterns might be too similar.

If you need to change the rug, DH and I sawthis one or something very similar. DH wanted to use it in our house, an I really liked it too, but it just didn't feel right for what we were working with.

I like the toile even better :-)

Ok, toile curtain samples on the way. If those don't work out, will get some fabric samples and put my mother to work :)

Lasca, I do have the rug already (sitting in the garage). Please don't buy that overstock one, though! I bought a very similar rug a few years back to cover some nasty carpet in the rental we lived in while we built our other house. That rug shed so much my DH wanted to throw it out after a week. It would fill the vacuum multiple every time we vacuumed it, and it made us both sneeze constantly. I couldn't waste it and shipping it back wasn't worth the trouble, so we ended up giving it to my mother, who took it to her beach house. Now it's 4+ years old and it still sheds like crazy, but she puts up with it because it's a free rug and it looks nice. My DH hates going there cause he still hates that stupid rug!

That's too bad about the curtain samples! Toile will be interesting so looking forward to seeing that. What colour have your ordered?

    Butternut thanked blfenton

Not to worry Butternut. DH really wanted it and I liked it, but I couldn't put it together wih everything else so I let DH down easy and we found a totally different rug that is waiting for the new table to arrive. I did notice that there were a couple of different but very similar designs as well as the same design on a cotton backing and on a latex backing. ISn't rug shopping fun? Getting to be like mattresses and the covers with different color fabrics or different patterns in the stitching.

Blfenton - I ordered a blue and white toile sample from country curtains, which are the ones I put in the board. I wonder if a little less contrast would be better though, like this fabric.

I finally figured out why I don't like the first toile ones that you posted, I think they're too baby blue, but that's just me. I like the one above depending on how it goes with your wall paint colour. Have you looked at navy blue toiles at all.

    last modified: 10 years ago

I wasn't a fan of the color -- seemed a bit too bright next to the soft blue of the armoire. I like the light feeling of a lighter blue about the window, but a navy might keep most of that and balance the brown leathers better. I keep wanting to change that chair (or maybe the bench) to blue. I'm not seeing the two brown leathers together and like the one on the bench better in that grouping. Not to harp on it if you love it --

I love the toile from Country Curtains! Very English cottage in a beautifully understated way.

This is looking really good! The cast fireplace surround is a brilliant solution, and I agree on the limestone color. Love the furniture choices, and those nesting tables will be perfect.

I like the toile much more than the solid blue curtains, or the cherry blossom, so maybe it was meant to be :-) The second toile fabric you posted looks perfect. I can't wait to see it all come together!

Meant to say earlier that if the Country Curtains toile color works with you other pieces, I like that toile better that the more delicate one. They have less color contrast, but the design is more detailed and delicate -- a bit fussy for what you are putting together. The look of the traditional toile is good - the colors just don't look like they will be the best pairing on my monitor. Those last 3 words tell you why you should judge for yourself. ;)
