I miss my BioKleen. My grocery doesn't carry it anymore. Now I use ECOS Free & Clear. With white vinegar in the fabric softener bin. Did you order the BioKleen? I may have to look into that, it is my favorite detergent.

But I wash very differently then you all do- mostly on cold. Our clothes can't take all the hot and warm temps that it seem people here use. I wash sheets and towels on hot, everything else gets cold and permanent press or gentle cycle.

Jess, I did a search on sears.com and found the Biokleen there, I had searched everywhere, drug stores, health stores I couldn't find it anywhere. I did find different sites online that sell it but wanted to order from a place I had heard of, I was glad to find it on sears. What type of fabric is your clothing that can't take warm and hot? Do you also wash whites on cold?

A lot of cotton that I don't want to shrink, rayon, some poly stuff. I don't have a lot of whites- just socks. Sometimes I will do a white or lights load, but often I just wash all my stuff together at once. In my house each person does their own laundry, so we typically each do one load of our clothes a week. Every once in a great while I will gather up everybody's true whites and do them together with some oxyclean to get them brighter, but since it is mostly socks and dh's undershirts it doesn't matter if the whites are greyish and not truly bright- no one really sees them.

Mama....OMG, you gotta stop posting these pics of all the glorious water! First off, we don't have any of it in CA, LOL (but not really LOL!!) and second NONE of our front loaders will ever give us such amazing water levels for washing or rinsing!! Happy for you, but green with envy! I hope you like Biokleen. I hate it! Now a real LOL :)

I think you will like the BioKleen if you are looking for no suds. I discovered it from reading how to wash cloth diapers- it rinses really clean and is good for tender baby skin. Cloth diapering is also how I got hooked on using vinegar in the fabric softener bin- to make sure that the soap residue is gone and it also entirely gets rid of the urine odor.

Lol Larsi, and yep I know you don't like Biokleen..I ma y not either right now the towels are washing, I had to shut them off for a short 30 minute soak but they are agitating now..hope they arnt rough..sodium carbonate is the 1'st ingredient after all..lol yes I know the stuff is in all powders I don't mind, I just hate adding more.

Jess did you know there's more of a chance of clothing shrinking in the dryer than in warm and hot water..omg Jess do you wash whites, colors, darks, pastels all together, and on cold to boot? Jess, jess, jess...I'm having heart palpatations just thinking about it..I can't EVEN bear the thought of jeans and socks together..ill be back I need some wine..lmao

Jess, I'm sorry if my playful reaction made you feel bad..I know a lot of people wash in cold, if it works for you that's great. I hope you accept my apologies.

Towels are in the dryer, I missed the rinse cycle so didn't get the downy in, but I don't always use it anyway. The towels looked and smelled great, so we will see...hey Larsi I was thinking ( yes I know that could be dangerous for me) but the last time you used Biokleen was when you had harder water, before your water softener system?? Soft water can make a huge difference in how detergents affect fabrics..do you still have Biokleen or did you ditch it?

Towels are done snow white, soft and fluffy even without fabric softener. .the pic has a bit of a yellow cast..darn camera, I'll try another pic tomorrow, but any detergent that can make my towels smell so fresh and so soft has my vote..next load..whites to soak lol.

Pnk-Why do you not put the Downy in the dispenser?

I'm affraid of mold..lol silly i know...you should have seen the mold in moms dispenser in the roper, it was soo bad.I know I can just clean it periodically..or buy a downy ball lol

It won't mold if diluted cause it will spin out well plus leave the lid up. When I had a TL the lid was never closed unless using it.

Look at the Picture of the Day at AW. Now that was a washer. Grew up with that type. Too bad not still making them.I'd have one in a minute. LOL But they used overflow rinses and plenty of water so that would never fly now.

Mamapinky....I ditched the Biokleen ages ago. My clothes, towels and sheets felt so rough and scratchy and everything looked dull! I did not overdose, and it was rinsed well, 3x. At the time I had my big Miele W4842 washer set to Water+, so rinses were VERY high and deep. Perhaps better now with our whole house water system, but the smell was not my favourite. Grapefruit or orange oil or something like that? It was not a "bad" scent, but nothing smelled "good" to me.

Your white towels look amazing. I love white towels and sheets, but sometimes I have a little shaving nick and then I get a drop of blood on a towel or sheet....that freaks me out on a white towel, LOL. I now only buy coloured towels, although some are very light. I only buy white hand towels though....I keep baskets of hundreds rolled up in each bathroom; this way you always have a clean, dry & fresh hand towel. To me one of the worst things is washing your hands, and then having to touch a moist towel, hanging on the towel rack or ring. YUCK. Also, this gives me enough whites to do a load each week with my white kitchen towels and the very few pairs of white socks or undies we might have (I make it a point to try and only buy us all dark, black or bright undies and socks....More fun). Ha ha ha ;)

I love white also! All white bed linens. All my towels are white. Only wear white underwear. White socks for casual and black for work.

I roll my towels for storage. Socks are rolled together (not tucked into a ball).

Underwear get folded in half horizontal.

White just looks so clean to me..I also have and use white sheets, but I do have some vintage sheets with pastel prints, hubs got the ugly solid pastels (not vintage) that were gifts lol.

Larsi..my daughter along with her condition is a bleeder..she uses white sheets, pillowcases and towels, always have blood to deal with, it always comes out with a lukewarm prewash..but on the other hand I have to deal with blood stains, I have no choice.lol. her bedding and towels are always done seperatly, and her bedding changed daily as is her towels. also I'm the same way about hand towels, also white, I go thru a ton of them a day..about a full load every 4-5 days. I have been putting paper towels in all the baths for the boys, but they never use them. Lol. Gotta run I have to write Ellen a letter.

George--I have rolled the towels for years. Also fold underwear the same way. LOL. To me, towels take up less space plus just look nicer rolled.

Did anyone notice how it self balanced during the spins? And it had two spin speeds. It drained all that water FAST.

They were the best!! In the 70's, my Mom got a Kenmore and was sick of it from day one. She said it didn't wash, rinse, or spin anything like the Frigidaire. I have never seen a 1-18 model work in person(other than you tube) but they didn't seem to wash like the older ones but I might be wrong. Seemed to be louder too plus no overflow rinsing. Just something about that up/down agitation cleaned everything better.(and all the water).LOL

This is what I grew up with (but in Avocado), the Westinghouse front loader.

I'm used to front loaders but this and now the Electrolux have been the only front loaders I've had.

That's funny---growing up my neighbor got a new set of Westinghouse F/L side by side. This was either in 1962-63 because their daughter was born right around the same time. Bet she didnt use that dryer 20 times and kept it sitting there for 35 yrs or so. The Mom just passed away about a month ago(85 yr old) but she had a set of Maytag TL she has had for yrs and did use that dryer--I guess because of health. Front loaders have come a long way. Much quieter now, faster spin, but no water compared to the one above and no reverse tumble.

In 1980 I was given a westinghouse FL washer, I don't know the year of the washer, but it had the slant front..I LOVED that washer, we were in the process of moving about a year or so later, loaded the washer on the truck in the driveway, in the morning it was gone..someone stole it out of the truck lol..in a nice quiet neighborhood. I've mourned ever since, yet I barely remember it lol.

I WANT ONE!!! Frigidaire Custom Imperial. It's so funny, the 1960's loved the world Imperial and Regal! Omg, incredible. Look at that water, that turn over, that agitation!!! Hot damn!!

mamapinky- no offense taken! I knew it would kill you after reading so many of ya'll's posts about washing on hot and warm. And yes- sometimes everything (clothing only) is all washed together on cold- socks included. If I have enough for two loads, I will separate into darks and lights. I guess I will have to let you educate me on whatever hazards I am running into by washing this way.

Larsi LOL! It's really too bad, in more ways than one, that Ca. is experiencing a horrible drought. Bet when it's over you get yourself a water hog just to play with. :-)

Pink--My neighbors was slanted (Westinghouse) and the door would weigh clothes and had a guide told you how much water to use. It had a water level control back then.

Sparky yep it did use water lol..I used to love that washer..I bet they would be hard to find now days.

I owned one of these washers years ago! Sadly it was used when I got it and had a short life in my home with 5 boys! I did love the way it got their clothes clean.

About the Biokleen plus..I do really like it, I soaked whites all night in it, no additives, no stpp, I got a beautiful brillant white and everything was soft and fresh smelling. I have though decided not to buy anymore detergent formulated for whites at least for awhile, I need to think about my colors also lol.

Donna--which machine did you have? The Westinghouse front load or the Frigidaire Top Load?
