Who remembers OXYDOL original powder?

I love it and miss it. :( I found a substitute, Gain w bleach powder, and then they stopped making that! I saw Oxydol has been picked up by another company and they now add BIZ to the powder, but i cannot find it locally. Anyone tried it? Mama Pinky i swear i saw a box in your pics. How is it? If it's decent I have to order a box for me AND my mom. (former oxydol user).

I know Dollar Tree sells Oxydol Liquid for $1. How well it cleans, I'm not sure. Someone told it wasn't that great, but I do know it smells clean. :-)

I think I've seen Oxydol Powder at Big Lot's. Have you looked there? :)

    Also, check this. :)

OMG george I LOVE love love thierry mugler too! I agree all the good stuff IS gone. And yes-scent is so important. I will die if thierry stops making my favorite--im not even going to say what it is cuz im afraid i will jinx it. :/

Didn't Tide with Bleach take Oxydol's place? It wasn't a P&G brand too much longer after Tide/bleach came out. And of course the one on the market now isn't the same.

Mami, I do have Oxydol with Biz, lol, I found it at the local independently owned grocery store, and my son found it at Trader Horn a few weeks ago. It does not smell anything like original Oxydol, however IMO its worth buying. It does have enzymes and sodium percarbonate, so I reserve it for whites and lights ( you all know my feeling about sodium percarbonate in colors). I used to see the huge boxes of Oxydol at dollar type stores, the 1 cup formula, that I never tried, when I went for a box of course I couldn't find it.but it wasn't real Oxydol.I wanted the box, just the box, lol, I could have lined it with a clear trash bag and had a cute trash can in my laundry room haha. Anyway, the Oxydol with Biz does a great job, I'd buy it again.

Sparky, I think what happened was P&G wanted to concentrate on the name Tide, but their Oxydol formula was to big a hit and got in the way of the name Tide, so Oxydol was sold, the name at least, I don't think the formula was sold. And Oxydol became History, which is too bad, because P&G has other MOL detergents, (Gain, Era) that they rely to boost revenues, they should have kept Oxydol on board, I'll bet they regret that move. As far as original April Fresh Downy, P&G could have found a way to keep that scent, money talks.

Did you know Oxydol was the 1'st detergent to contain a oxygen bleach.

Also Oxydol began as *sosp* flakes* than changed to a detergent.

This is why I love Mama...she knows her stuff!

@ George....I have worn Angel by Thierry Mugler since about 1993, before it even arrived in the USA. I would buy it in Germany, UK or Sweden. Everyone knows me by this scent. Scent is very important to me.

The only other scent I will wear besides Angel is Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. Amazing!!!

I miss Oxydol. Fab 1 Shot. Original Scent Tide Powder and most of all April Fresh Downy. The Downy is so sad for me, it is my personal biggest laundry loss. My Mom used it, My grandma used it, my great grandma used it and I used it since 1992! I can still 100% smell it in my mind, and I miss it daily!!!

The Oxydol you buy at the dollar store is NOT the original formula.

There is no original Oxydol anymore.

May, did you think I thought it was the real stuff..lol...I wish it was lol

I think the formula is the Tide/bleach with some tweaks. I know they only sold the name. According to testing at CR of Oxydol, current day was almost rock bottom.

Which Oxydol did CR test, the big box 1cup formula, or the Oxydol with Biz?

    Biz formula.

    I can't seem to find it..lol

They tested a few years ago not recently if that is what you mean. It rated withor worse than Xtra, Sun etc.

Can't find it, all I could find was oxydol liquid in 2013 or 14. Can't understand what's wrong with CR...I can understand the liquid and 1 cup formula being low, but oxydol with biz has both enzymes and oxy bleach. Oh well I rate my own detergents lol..IMO its a very good detergent for whites. Better than P&G's MOL Gain. Actually back this summer I was using it and had as good results with it as I did Tide bleach. I think I posted about it somewhere.lol

Mama- I agree on Oxydol with Biz's performance. It's one of my favorites and the smell is teriffic. My other detergents are getting lonesome because I have been using more Mexican Ariel and Foca. But it hasn't stopped me from buying 6 various detergents in the last few days.

I came across a few boxes of the original Oxydol. They were stored in a basement. I opened one box and am using it. I actually really like it. Still have a few more...They are BIG boxes.

How long were they in the basement?

Can you check the box and see who the manufacturer Is?

They have been in the basement for a long time. The manufacturer is Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati Ohio

I liked the old Oxydol with green bleaching crystals a lot but can't get it anymore and more currently have used the new Oxydol with the Biz freshener in it and works good. But it doesn't have any bleach in it anymore. So moving on! Did a study on soap and soap detergents and let’s face it as I found out soap is soap no matter what brand you use it's the same thing and soap, and not any difference really. Not one brand detergent is any better than any another brand as far as cleaning goes is what the research showed. They all clean the same and do the same thing, period. The old Blue Cheer can’t get anymore with bluing in it is said to enhance whites by bluing it but that it didn’t clean any better than any other detergent soap. It all surprised me but it's the truth about detergent soaps. All brand[s] detergents Soap is Soap! I like the powder detergent soap best (and is the best buy) but you need to mix it before you drop your clothes in it. Save you the study!

    T.Wilson.

Where did you read this study?

No, not all laundry detergents are the same. Laundry powders are no longer soap, its now made using surfactants in place of the old soap powder.

Detergents differ from brand to brand, some use a higher concentration of surfactants, some have enzyme cocktails, some no enzymes, some have bleach... some not. You really need to know what you want out of a detergent before buying. You mentioned the old Oxydol with Bleach. ...yes it was great stuff, but we now have Tide with Bleach powder. .I highly recommend it for whites.

As far as mixing the powder detergent before dropping clothes into it..why are you needing to do this?

I love scents too. I probably have 50 perfumes that I have received as gifts or bought myself. However out of those 50 there are only about a dozen I would buy again.

    I love anything by Escada

    Tommy Bahama

    YSL Parisienne

Victoria Secret Breathless, Heavenly and Angels

Ralph Lauren Blue and a couple of others

    Many by Clinique
