Oops: Annual Rye

I bought cheap seed at Walmart: Pennington Fall Mix to patch some areas
of the lawn. I later realized there was 39% annual rye grass in it...If
I don't let the patched areas get long enough to go to seed, will the
annual rye die off in late Spring of next year and I'll be done with it
or have I essentially introduced a grassy weed all over my lawn?

The majority will die off next summer, but it can survive (even significant amounts) if we get a rainy one. The second year, it's usually gone.

I might be inclined to return that if I could and get something else without the annual rye. If not, it should be OK to use, just keep in mind that the stuff might last longer than you really want.
