Gravel under wraparound porch?

We do not want a porch skirt on our wrap around porch. I like the look of gravel under the porch and extending out about a foot, but I am concerned that it may have some unanticipated side effects. Will it hold water? or attract critters? etc etc Maybe there are some advanges (We have a crawl space. ) What do you think?

Good question, I wouldn't think it would hold water, but critters, yeah maybe. Just don"t feed the birds.

Make sure the grade is pitched away from the foundation, spray weed killer, you can install a basic border, put landscaping fabric (if you don't have the pitch) If the pitch is there, you can use 6 mil plastic and put stone on top. If your crawl space floor even or above the grade, you will be fine in any case.
