If you do add shutters make certain the are large enough to cover the windows if they where closed, this is the biggest mistake people make on homes, I agree a front door with glass would look awesome

I agree with the above comment about the width of the shutters. Because of the width of the triple widow the shutters might end up looking too wide with the glass. maybe a small awning.
As far as the front door color. on a traditional house like this I always like a "pop" of color on the front door. I vote red.

I see a stained fiberglass door on your home. If you want full lite, the one below from Home Depot is simple and clean lined. Or, because your home reminds me of a Texas Hill Country ranch, maybe a version of the wrought iron door in a single door.

I like the awning idea. I feel it needs some character out front to jazz it up. What materials would you suggest. I think you all are correct on the shutter advice.

An awning could be fun but the material would depend on where you live. If you get any kind of snow, metal is suggested to hold up against the weight of it. If you're lucky enough to be where there's little or no snow, fabric is your best bet. Look for something with a very clean line-nothing with scallops. Keep in mind that an awning will also darken your interior so unless you have a rooms with lots of good light, it may feel too dark.

I agree with David. Your home has a lot of brown tones, and adding a pop of colour would liven it up. I vote red! A red door would coordinate very well with the brown. Planting some red flowers with the yellow along the front of your home will also balance and unify the exterior. Beefing up the windows will definitely add character. Would love to see pics when your project is done.

I think a metal/wood at a shallow pitch with a light color choice. maybe even a galvalume.

I decided to go ahead and throw your picture into some software and give you a little pictorial view of my ideas. the metal on the awnings could match the door color too. I also showed you that by adding some larger plantings you could fill in the large empty wall space you have. hope this may help some.
